In another event, Palestinian minister of prisoners' affairs Atallah Abul Sabeh said that the cause of the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails would remain a central issue for the Palestinian people, and the Arab and Muslim nations.
Abul Sabeh made his remarks during a ceremony held on Tuesday evening to honor the winners of the international writing contest, who were chosen for their literary works about the issue of the Palestinian prisoners.

Occupation re-arrests ex-prisoner liberated under exchange deal

Palestinian Prisoners Center for Studies confirmed that the occupation ruled that ex-captive Mahmoud Taym from Nablus, liberated under Wafa al-Ahrar deal, will be jailed for 10 months, to complete his previous prison term.
Lawyer Mustafa Azmouty told PIC that Salem Military Court has sentenced yesterday the captive Taym to 11 months of imprisonment. He was sentenced to 10 months as completion of his previous sentence, before his release under the exchange deal, in addition to one month for entering the 1948-occupied territories without the occupation permit.
Mahmoud Taym was serving a prison term of 34 months, before being released under Wafa al-Ahrar deal after 24 months of imprisonment. The occupation re-kidnapped him 3 months ago, and imposed on him to serve the rest of his prison sentence.
Director of the Palestinian Prisoners Center for Studies, researcher Riyad al-Ashqar, said in a press statement on Tuesday that Taym was not the only liberated prisoner who was re-arrested by the occupation.
Ashqar warned of this dangerous procedure, which aims to re-arrest the ex-prisoners who had been liberated under the prisoners exchange deal, and stressed that the silence and inaction regarding these Israeli abuses encourage the occupation to continue its criminal policies against the liberated captives.
At least 14 other prisoners exchanged for Shalit were rearrested, Ashqar revealed, demanding the Egyptian sponsor to intervene for their release.

Ex-prisoners assert they were tortured in Israeli interrogation centers

Palestinian liberated prisoners asserted that the Israeli authorities have been practicing brutal torture and tyranny against them during interrogation.
MP Sheikh Mohammed Jamal Natsheh, a leading figure in Hamas movement from al-Khalil who was arrested in December 1990, told PIC that he had been subjected to different forms of torture in the Moscobiya interrogation center in Jerusalem.
He said that among the methods of torture used by the Shin Bet is to deprive the prisoner from sleeping, noting that he had been deprived of sleeping during the interrogation for nearly three weeks.
The liberated captive Dr. Adnan Abu Tabana, 50 from al-Khalil, was also subjected to interrogation during his arrest in 2002 in the Jalama interrogation center, as he confirmed that the interrogators tortured him during the interrogation.
He stated that one of the forms of torture used at the Jalama center is that a burly investigator comes in during the investigation and begins to violently shake captive until he loses consciousness. Dr. Abu Tabana noted that this form of torture affects the spinal cord and may lead to death.
Dr. Abu Tabana added: "Due to this kind of torture the prisoner Abdul Samad Ehrizat, from al-Khalil, and many other captives died".
Following the international protests that condemned the occupation because of this torture; the Shin Bet started in March using another form of torture, which is psychological torture, under which the Shin Bet holds the Palestinian prisoner in a very small closed cell (of 80 cm × 150 cm) for three continuous months, isolated from the rest of world, without even being able to see the sun.
Thousands of Palestinian prisoners have been subjected to this form psychological pressure, which enabled the Israeli interrogators to forcibly extract confessions.

AOHR calls for recognizing Palestinian detainees as war prisoners

The Arab Organization for Human Rights in Britain (AOHR) said that the martyrdom of the Palestinian prisoner Arafat Jaradat in Israeli prisons sheds light on the Israeli torture methods against Palestinian civilians in the occupied territories.
AOHR called on the Palestinian people to pressure the PA leadership to raise the prisoners' issue in general and the issue of prisoner Jaradat at the UN General Assembly in order to investigate what is going on in the Israeli prisons and to work to form a special tribunal for the Israeli crimes against the Palestinian prisoners.
In light of the increasing Israeli violations against the Palestinian prisoners, the organization stressed, in its statement on Monday, that it is necessary to call on the UN General Assembly to recognize the Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails as prisoners of war and to work on their protection.
The organization called on UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to form a committee to investigate the circumstances of the martyr Jaradat's murder and to prosecute his killers.
The organization pointed out that tens of thousands of prisoners were subjected to extreme torture in Israeli jails leading to the martyrdom of more than 200 Palestinian prisoners.
The statement presented the different Israeli methods of torture against the prisoners in the jails of the occupation, including: severe physical beating (using hands, feet, and weapons), trying to insult the prisoners with the use of obscene and degrading insults. Prisoners are detained in cells that are dirty, damp, unventilated and dark.
They are threatened with rape and sexually harassed. They get hung by the hands and feet in the air in different positions for long hours, handcuffed tight and firm. Dogs are used to intimidate prisoners, in addition to the arrest of other members of the family to pressure the detainee, especially women threatening to rape them in front of their relatives and their detained family member/s.

Jaradat's martyrdom raises alarm bells

Arafat Jaradat's martyrdom under torture in Israeli jails has set off alarm bells over the prisoners' lives especially that a number of them are in real danger.
Abdel Nasser Farawana, a researcher in prisoners' affairs, told PIC reporter that Jaradat's martyrdom will not be the last in light of the continued Israeli policy of torture, medical negligence, ill-treatment, denouncing the international silence towards the Israeli violations as if it is "a state above law."
The death of captive Jaradat brought the number of prisoners who died in Israeli jails to 203 prisoners, according to human rights institutions' reports.
Farawana said that many Palestinian prisoners suffer chronic illnesses in Israeli jails, putting their lives in real danger.
Concerning Jaradat's death, he said that the autopsy results proved the prisoner's death was under extreme torture and not due to a cardiac arrest, calling on everybody to assume their responsibilities regarding this crime.
The Palestinian prisoners still face a real danger in Israeli prisons in light of legalized torture in Israeli jails, where prisoners are subjected to systematic and extreme torture during all stages of imprisonment, especially in the interrogation stage which could last for many months.
Director of Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, Issam Younis, told PIC that "Israel is the only country in the world that legalizes torture, in contravention of international laws."
Younis stresses that the Jaradat's death "constitutes a war crime that cannot be legally justified."
17 prisoners are now in real danger, waiting for their death at any moment, where they reside permanently in Ramle prison hospital suffering chronic health problems, according to some human rights reports.
Farawana pointed out to the Palestinian striking prisoners whose health condition is sharply deteriorated, noting that the effects of their hunger strike on their health will continue even after their release.
Farawana called for uniting the Palestinian decision towards Palestinian prisoners' issues, and to activate their cases in the international and global forums.
Many Palestinian prisoners had declared hunger strike protesting against their difficult situation in Israeli prisons, led by Samer al-Issawi and Ayman al-Sharawna who went on hunger strike since 8 months.
The human rights researcher Younis confirmed that the occupation forces violate the international minimum standards in dealing with the prisoners in its jails.
Several Palestinian marches were launched to protest the Israeli crimes against Palestinian prisoners, demanding the prosecution of the Israeli leaders as war criminals.
Gaza children hold sit-in in solidarity with prisoners
Dozens of Palestinian children organized a sit-in with the participation of a Tunisian delegation to the Gaza Strip, on Tuesday morning at the Beit Hanoun crossing in the northern Gaza Strip, in solidarity with the striking prisoners and in protest at the murder of prisoner Jaradat. The child Izz al-Din Abu Lulu said that their sit-in was organized to show their support for the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and to condemn the Israeli oppression and crimes.
The assassination of prisoner Jaradat proves the hatred of the occupation to the Palestinian people and it proves the Israeli failure before the prisoners' steadfastness, he added.
He stressed that Palestinian children wanted to send a letter to the occupier that they will never stop supporting the prisoners' issue like all Palestinian segments.
Meanwhile, Palestinian medical sources reported that three hunger strikers, in solidarity with the striking prisoners, came to the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah in critical condition.
The three hunger striker activists were taken from the solidarity tent set up outside the UN headquarters in Al-Bireh, where their health condition has deteriorated due to their continued hunger strike, the activist Boshra Tawil told Quds press.

One of the participants charged the Israeli prison service and intelligence with torturing Palestinian prisoners using different means.
