Group: Al-Rekhawi returns to hunger strike in Israel jail

A Palestinian prisoner who went on hunger strike for 100 days last year has resumed his action after Israel reneged on a deal to release him, a prisoners' rights group said.
Akram al-Rekhawi re-started his hunger strike on Jan. 24, Addameer's lawyer Fares Ziad after visiting him in jail.
A father of eight, Al-Rekhawi suffers diabetes, asthma and osteoporosis and has been held in Ramle prison clinic since his arrest in 2004. He was due to be freed in June 2013 but went on hunger strike to demand his release on medical grounds.
Al-Rekhawi stopped his last strike in July after prison authorities agreed to release him six months early, the group said in a statement on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, prisoners society lawyer Jawad Bolous said Thursday another hunger-striker, Samer Issawi, was in a critical condition.
Issawi, who has been on partial hunger strike since August, now weighs just 47 kilos and "appears to be just bones," Bolous said.
Addameer urged Egypt, which has brokered deals to free Palestinian prisoners, to work to secure the release of the hunger-strikers.

IDF mechanic captures terrorist
First Sergeant Major Barak Moshe seized Palestinian terrorist who stabbed teen at Tapuach Junction.
The vigilance and determination of a career officer prevented a large-scale terror attack on Tuesday. First Sergeant Major Barak Moshe chased after and seized a Palestinian terrorist who stabbed an Israeli teen.
The victim, waiting at a hitchhikers station at the Tapuach Junction was taken to the Rabin Medical Center in Petah Tikva suffering from light injuries.
An initial investigation suggests that the terrorist, a Ramallah resident in his 20s, was caught by Moshe and arrested by a Border Guard force. A mechanic at the Samaria Territorial Brigade, Moshe recounted, "I was standing at the station with two Israeli teens next to me.
"Suddenly I saw a Palestinian who looked about 23-years-old coming, pulling out a knife, stabbing one of the teens and then starting to run."
"I immediately started to chase after him and caught him. He didn't try to struggle and said nothing. " Moshe said the incident was over in a matter of minutes but noted that in retrospect the Palestinian behaved suspiciously noting that he was walking in a nervous manner with his hands in his pockets. "I have no idea why he chose to stab a young teen with a uniformed soldier standing next to him," he remarked. The terrorist admitted he had committed the act for nationalistic motives. IDF and police forces are still investigating whether he acted alone or not.
Meanwhile, security forces are still on high alert in the wake of recent terrorist attacks in the West Bank.
Settlers called on the government to take tougher measures against Palestinians and redeploy the checkpoints that had been removed from West Bank roads in the past two years.
Shomron Council Head Gershon Mesika praised the officers who caught the terrorist but noted that "the weakness exhibited by the political echelon enhances the terrorists' motivation to carry out attacks on both sides of the Green Line.
"Had the checkpoints not been removed the terrorist could not have reached the Tapuch Junction armed. The government must reestablish deterrence and redeploy the checkpoints in Tapuacha and Hawara."

A 17-year-old Jewish boy was stabbed in the West Bank on Tuesday afternoon. The teen sustained mild abdominal injuries and was evacuated to the Rabin Medical Center in Petah Tikva stable condition. According to the police's initial investigation, the perpetrator, a 20-year-old Palestinian man from Ramallah, simply walked over to the victim and stabbed him.
The suspect was immediately apprehended by Border Guard officers stationed nearby, and turned over to security forces for further interrogation. Chairman of the Shomron Settlers Association, Benny Katzover, told Ynet: "The IDF must be prepared and toughen policy in the face of any attempt to execute terror attacks. At the same time, the prime minister must use the weapon of Zionist retort and with each terror attack, work to solidify the settlements."
Earlier this week, Border Guard soldiers detained two Palestinian men with explosive devices, a knife and an improvised pistol. On questioning, the two admitted to planning a terror attack.
Meanwhile, two other men were caught after hurling firebombs. They were in the possession of hand grenades and improvised weapons.
The two also admitted to intentions of executing terror attacks, with a specific plan to attack the Alon Moreh settlement. The two were carrying a letter in which a Palestinian organization assumed responsibily for the attack that did not come into effect.

For its part, PARC denounced the Israeli brutal practices against its project, stressing that this agriculture road will enable the Palestinian farmers to have access to their lands.
The farmers in Zawata village and neighboring villages are constantly suffering from the severe economic conditions in light of the Israeli attacks, where they are prevented to have access to their agricultural lands located along the bypass road that lead to Shomron settlement.

Israeli forces storm prison, assault prisoners

Special forces, affiliated with the Israeli prison authority, raided various wards in Askalan jail on Sunday morning and severely beat up Palestinian prisoners.
The Palestinian prisoner’s association said in a press release that joint forces of the Dror and Matsada units attacked the prisoners in their rooms without prior notice.
It called for international protection for Palestinian prisoners in light of the escalating Israeli assaults.
In another context, official and public delegates and citizens continued to call on the sit-in tent pitched in Jenin in solidarity with those prisoners.
The coordinator of national and Islamic forces in Jenin, Ata Eghbariye, championed national unity in its capacity as a vital issue in defending those prisoners.
He called for a national day in defense of prisoners on Monday, and said that solidarity with those prisoners should not be limited to sit-ins but rather should include urgent meetings for all factions to agree on practical support steps and tabling their issue with the UN Security Council.

The Israeli Occupation Forces arrested at dawn on Sunday 6 citizens in occupied Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Nablus.
Eyewitnesses told PIC reporter that Israeli soldiers stormed the town of Beit Fajar in Bethlehem and arrested two citizens, while a third citizen was detained near a military checkpoint in the city under the pretext that he approached an Israeli settlement.
The Israeli forces also arrested two citizens from the town of Hawara, south of Nablus claiming that they attacked a military checkpoint by Molotov cocktails.
In a related context, the occupation forces stormed at dawn today the town of Silwan to the south of al-Aqsa Mosque.
Wadi Hilweh Information Center confirmed that Israeli military forces, accompanied by Shin Bet members, raided in the early hours of the morning Bustan neighborhood in the town of Silwan and raided the house of political activist Mousa Odeh and arrested his son Mohammad Mousa Odeh, 25 years old.
The center stressed that Mohammad is a liberated prisoner, he was released less than a year ago from Israeli jails after spending nearly a year and a half behind bars.
An Israeli court in Jerusalem has sentenced his brother Ibrahim Odeh to home arrest, while his family was subjected to numerous attacks, most notably the arrest of the child Muslim Odeh more than 13 times.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses revealed that the Israeli forces started construction work in the street near al-Majnouna former military camp along with Fawara camp south of al-Khalil.
The sources told PIC reporter that the occupation forces began construction work to establish the Court building in the former military camp.
The Israeli step confirmed that this area is being re-occupied by the Israeli authorities after being evacuated.
The Israeli occupation forces handed last year the land of the camp to the settlements council, where they demolished several agricultural pools and prevented citizens from building near the area as a prelude to its settlement projects there.
