PM's spouse slams anti-government protesters, whom she calls 'hooligans' on cocaine, for 'defecating in people's yards' during rallies against Netanyahu; bashes left-wing lawmakers for failing to denounce lewd comments directed at her
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's wife, Sara, on Wednesday claimed she and her two sons are being abused by the protesters during rallies against the prime minister's Jerusalem residence.
Throughout the summer, thousands of Israelis have taken to the streets to call on Netanyahu to resign, protesting his handling of the country’s coronavirus crisis and saying he should not remain in office while on trial for corruption charges.
"There are hooligans and anarchists who shout 'death to Bibi (the prime minister's nickname) and Sara,'" said Netanyahu. "Just yesterday, I saw that someone admitted that some demonstrators defecate in people's yards. It is not fake news when the prime minister says it."
"People are going to die. I didn’t hear anybody condemning this anarchism. People do lines and come [to protests] doped up," she said, implying some protesters are using cocaine before rallies.
"I condemn any violence on the right. I don’t want to hear any 'death to Arabs' or 'death to leftists' calls. Most right-wing demonstrators do it respectfully with songs and flags, I can hear them. If there is a rogue minority – the prime minister and I condemn it."
Netanyahu also criticized the center-left lawmakers for failing to address obscene sexual comments launched at her during protests and online.
"I haven't heard [Defense Minister Benny] Gantz or [Foreign Minister Gabi] Ashkenazi condemn the sexual violence against me," said Netanyahu. "I would expect the most from [Labor MK Merav] Michaeli, I did not hear her condemn it. I have not heard from [Meretz MK] Tamar Zandberg, who only knows how to shout and shout."
Netanyahu bashed the media for allegedly pushing false narratives against her and her family, while ignoring alleged scandals pertaining to lawmakers on the left.
"What is this hypocrisy? End the shaming against me, my husband and his children. In the end, we are people and we also have souls," said Netanyahu.
Netanyahu also denied recent rumors about her medical condition, labeling them "fake news", and said she has been absent from the public eye lately due to the coronavirus pandemic canceling many official events and gatherings, which she usually attends with her husband.
When asked whether members of the prime minister's family were urging him to go to elections for fear he would have to vacate the prime minister's office to Gantz, she responded, saying the allegations were "nonsense" and "fake news."

Yair Netanyahu retracts remarks, says was referring to costumed demonstrators; organizers of rallies say premier and family attempt to dehumanize them, protests will continue to grow until he resigns
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's son said on Monday that his father was amused and even invigorated by the protests against him, labeling the demonstrators "aliens."
In an interview with Israel Airwaves Radio, Yair Netanyahu said he showed his father “select parts” from the demonstrations.
"I try and not show him the obscene things because that would be unpleasant, but you know, he finds it entertaining, gives him a bit of strength even," said Netanyahu.
For many weeks, protests have been taking place almost daily across Israel, including outside the home of the premier who was indicted in November 2019 for corruption, fraud and breach of trust in three cases - a first for an incumbent Israeli prime minister.
Protesters called for Netanyahu's departure from office and denounced the government's mismanagement of the coronavirus pandemic.
Netanyahu later backtracked on his statements on Twitter, saying he did not intend to brand all demonstrators as "aliens", but a selected few who arrive at rallies in costumes.
“When I spoke about ‘aliens,’ at the left-wing protests in Jerusalem, I meant those who were dressed up as aliens and UFOs, those who strip, those who dress up as genitals, those who brandish crude signs, those who put a spaghetti pot on their heads and those dressed up as Spider-Man. There are too many of these, and it’s funny," Netanyahu wrote.
In response, the organizers of the protests accused the prime minister’s son of dehumanizing them.
“For the family of the accused, we are not even human — aliens. This is not a prime minister, it’s a criminal suspect for whom the plight of his people is a source of amusement. The protests will continue to grow until he resigns,” they said.
A Jerusalem court ordered Yair Netanyahu on Sunday to stop "harassing" the organizers of protests calling for his father's ouster.
Netanyahu tweeted the personal addresses of the organizers of the protests outside the prime minister's official residence in Jerusalem on Thursday and called for similar demonstrations outside their homes.
"I invite everyone to demonstrate, day and night, in front of the houses of these people who organize anarchy in our country," he tweeted.
Justice Dorit Feinstein demanded the tweet be deleted and added in her ruling that he must "cease harassing protest organizers for six months and no longer publish their private addresses."
