Hundreds of Jewish settlers, including extremist rabbi Yehuda Glick video, on Thursday morning entered the Aqsa Mosque and desecrated its courtyards under police escort. video1  video2  video3

According to local sources, at least 1,000 settlers escorted by dozens of police officers toured the Aqsa Mosque’s courtyards. video1 video2 video3 video4 video5

Police officers also tried to evacuate Muslim worshipers from the courtyard of al-Masjid al-Qibli prayer building at the Aqsa Mosque as settlers were touring the area. video
Meanwhile, the police kidnaped five Palestinian young men from the Mosque’s courtyards. video

The Aqsa Mosque is exposed to daily desecration by Jewish settlers and police forces in the morning and the afternoon except on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Israeli police close al-Maghariba Gate, which is used by Jews to enter the Mosque, at 10:30 am after the settlers complete their morning tours at the holy site. Later in the afternoon, the same gate is reopened for evening tours by settlers.

During the presence of settlers inside the Mosque compound, entry restrictions are imposed on Muslim worshipers at the entrances leading to the Mosque and their IDs are seized until they leave the holy place.
Israeli occupation detains several Palestinians, including a BDS activist, in the occupied territories – PPS

Israeli occupation forces detained a number of Palestinians between last night and this morning, including an activist with the Israel boycott movement, BDS, in the occupied Palestinian territories, according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS).

It said the occupation forces detained Mahmoud Nawajah, coordinator of the BDS movement in the West Bank.

Israeli police also detained six Palestinians this morning while at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, including a guard working with the Islamic Waqf department, for challenging Jewish fanatics performing rituals in violation of standing rules at the Muslim holy site.

Israeli police also detained a number of Palestinian activists in Jerusalem but later set them free, said reports.

The Israeli occupation army detained five Palestinians from the Nablus district in the north of the West Bank, one from nearby Qalqilya, two from the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem and one from nearby city of Hebron.

#FreeMahmoud: Israeli occupation forces arrest BDS coordinator Mahmoud Nawajaa during night raid

Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC): Tens of Israeli occupation soldiers stormed the home of Mahmoud Nawajaa, the General Coordinator of the Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC), near Ramallah, handcuffing, blindfolding and taking him away from his wife and three young children.

Occupied Ramallah, 30 July 2020 – At around 3:30 am, tens of Israeli occupation soldiers, accompanied by at least one dog, stormed the home of Mahmoud Nawajaa, the General Coordinator of the Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC), near Ramallah, handcuffing, blindfolding and taking him away from his wife and three young children. tweet-video

Mahmoud Nawajaa, 34 years old, was born in Yatta, south Hebron, and holds a master’s degree in International Relations.

Before being led away, Nawajaa told his wife, “Take care of the kids.”

Mahmoud’s two older children, 9 and 7, shouted defiantly at the soldiers who invaded their home to arrest their father. The older son said, “Leave dad alone. Get out. Your dog doesn’t scare me.”

Under the UN’s International Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid [pdf], the “Persecution of organizations and persons, by depriving them of fundamental rights and freedoms, because they oppose apartheid,” is one of the inhumane acts committed to maintain an apartheid system.

The global, peaceful Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement was launched in 2005 by the overwhelming majority of Palestinian unions, mass movements, women’s organizations, and campaigns. It calls for ending Israel’s occupation and apartheid regime and for realizing the UN-stipulated rights of Palestinian refugees, forcibly displaced since 1948, to return to their homes.

The BNC, the largest coalition in Palestinian society, leads the BDS movement worldwide.

In a recent BNC statement welcoming the position of tens of UN human rights experts that have condemned Israel’s formal annexation plans as a crystallization of “a 21st century apartheid,” Mahmoud Nawajaa said:

For decades, international inaction and complicity have enabled Israel to violate the laws of belligerent occupation, advance its colonization of the occupied Palestinian territory and impose an apartheid regime that is enshrined in Israel’s domestic law.[pdf]

Faced with Israel’s illegal annexation, its regime of apartheid and its denial of our inalienable right to self-determination, it is high time for all States and international organizations to comply with their legal obligations by adopting effective countermeasures, including sanctions.

In recent years, the BDS movement has grown in prominence worldwide, its impact reaching parliaments across the globe, from South Africa to the US Congress, political parties, major trade unions, churches, campuses, racial justice movements, and renowned cultural and artistic figures.

Israel’s far-right government has been fighting the BDS movement for years, recognizing its strategic impact and allocating massive financial and human resources in its “war” against it.

BDS movement co-founder, Omar Barghouti, called for effective international pressure to secure Mahmoud Nawajaa’s immediate release:

Mahmoud is a leading Palestinian human rights defender who is highly regarded in Palestine and around the world for his tireless and passionate advocacy of Palestinian rights. As a young civil society leader, Mahmoud is a role model for Palestinians, young and old, and an inspiration to advocates of Palestinian rights everywhere.

Israel’s regime of military occupation, settler-colonialism and apartheid is desperately trying to terrorize Palestinian BDS activists and their families, after having failed to slow down the growth of the movement. We call on all BDS activists everywhere to further strengthen BDS campaigning to hold Israel accountable.

As Israel becomes a role model for the racist, authoritarian far right, BDS is becoming a key component of the global progressive wave that fights for Indigenous, racial, economic, social, gender and climate justice.

It is high time for States not just to defend Palestinian and other human rights defenders, like Mahmoud, but also to impose lawful, targeted sanctions to end Israel’s war crimes, crimes against humanity and entire regime of oppression of the Indigenous Palestinians. Only that can help us achieve freedom, justice and equality.

Palestinians demonstrate outside an Israeli court in support of Jerusalem’s PA governor
Picture
Several Palestinians and Arab members of the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, demonstrated today outside the Israeli Magistrate Court in West Jerusalem in support of detained Palestinian Authority governor of Jerusalem Adnan Ghaith.

Speaking to the crowd, lawmaker Ahmad Tibi, from the Arab Joint List, said the arrest of Ghaith and other Palestinian activists in the occupied city “aims at intimidating and preventing any Palestinian activity in Jerusalem, which is occupied and not united.”

He added, “We are here to challenge and to support all Palestinian activities in Jerusalem.”

Police detained two of the protesters, interrogated them and held them for a while.

Israeli occupation authorities detained Ghaith and another Palestinian official last week in East Jerusalem and summoned others for interrogation while raiding Palestinian cultural centers in the city in an effort to prevent any Palestinian activity in East Jerusalem.

Ghaith, detained for the 17th time since he was named governor of Jerusalem two years ago, is supposed to appear in court today to decide on whether to extend his two-week detention or release him.

Israeli police arrest two Palestinian youths in Jerusalem
Picture
The Israeli police on Wednesday evening arrested two Palestinian youths near Al-Asbat Gate in Jerusalem and sealed off some areas in the city.

Local sources said that the Israeli police kidnapped Mohammed Zaghir and Mohammed Najib at al-Asbat Gate, one of al-Aqsa Mosque’s main doors.

Right after the incident, the police closed the roads leading to al-Maghareba Gate and Silwan town.

Arrests, closures, and tight movement restrictions have been intensified over the past two days in Jerusalem, as a large number of Jewish settlers plan to carry out mass break-ins into al-Aqsa Mosque and al-Buraq Wall area on Wednesday to mark the Tisha B'Av or the Destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, many Jerusalemite activists have called on the Palestinians to intensify their presence in al-Aqsa Mosque to protect the holy site and thwart the settler break-in.

Israeli occupation forces detain 25 Palestinians in West Bank raids
Picture
Israeli occupation forces today detained at least 25 Palestinians from various parts of the West Bank, said the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

PPS confirmed in a press release that  Israeli forces rounded up 12 Palestinians, some of whom were former prisoners, from the northern West Bank district of Nablus.

Five of the 12 prisoners were identified as residents of Nablus city, another as a resident of Asira Ash-Shamaliya town, two others as residents of Talluza village, another as a resident of al-Badhan town.

In the northern West Bank, PPS said that a former prisoner was rounded up from Zababdeh town, southeast of Jenin. He was arrested from the vicinity of Salem military camp, west of Jenin.

In Tulkarem district, Israeli military vehicles stormed Tulkarem refugee camp, where soldiers rounded up a Palestinian.

Soldiers also conducted a similar raid in Nur Shams refugee camp, east of Tulkarem city, resulting in the detention of another.

In Jerusalem district, PPS pointed out that Israeli police rounded up Hanadi Halawani, an activist who has been banned entry to Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on several occasions.

Two other Palestinians were detained from Anata town, northeast of Jerusalem.

In Bethlehem district, Israeli troops detained two Palestinians, including one after assaulting him, from Dheisha refugee camp, south of Bethlehem city.

Troops also barged their way into Hindaza village, southeast of the city, where they rounded up another.

Another was detained from the southern West Bank district of Hebron.

Meanwhile, PPS confirmed that Israeli troops raided Makhoul and al-Hadidiya in the northern Jordan Valley, resulting in the detention of three Palestinians, including a father and his son.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.

According to Palestinian figures, roughly 5,700 Palestinians -- including numerous women and children -- are currently languishing in Israeli detention facilities.

Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.

The Israeli Prison Service (IPS) put a number of Palestinian prisoners in Ramon prison in quarantine after two jailers and other IPS members tested positive for the novel COVID-19.

According to the prisoners, a state of emergency has been declared in the prison and a number of prisoners have been put in quarantine and others underwent tests.

The concern was raised after Mohammad al-Hazeen tested positive for the virus a day after he was released from the same prison.

Meanwhile, Israeli troops stormed several houses and rounded up a Palestinian in Hebron city.

In the Jordan Valley, PPS confirmed an Israeli military raid in Aqbat Jaber refugee camp, south of Jericho city, resulting in the severe assaulting and detention of a former prisoner.

In Nablus district, Israeli military vehicles stormed Balata refugee camp, where soldiers rounded up another.

Another Palestinian from the camp was detained as he attempted to cross Huwara military checkpoint, south of Nablus.

In Bethlehem district, soldiers conducted a raid in Harmala village, south of the city, resulting in the detention of another.
