UFree: As Israeli air force bombs Gaza, army arrests 170 in West Bank

The European Network for the Defense of Palestinian Prisoners' Rights (Ufree) reported a number of arrests carried out by the Israeli army against Palestinian civilians.
The arrests came amid an escalating war against the people of Gaza initiated by Israel on the 14th Nov. 2012. UFree documented around 170 cases of arrests across the occupied West Bank towns and cities.
According to UFree Chairman, Mohammad Hamdan, Israeli occupation doesn’t abide by any International law nor Human rights charters.
“Israel is massacring Palestinian children and women in Gaza. They attack civilians in their houses. At the same time, Israel exploited the fact that the media outlets are busy covering the war on Gaza to arrest more people in the West Bank. They arrested a lot of children especially in occupied Jerusalem,” Hamdan stated.
Concerning the strike of Lawyers and workers at the Military Courts, Hamdan praised the strike and argued that "this strike is in support of the prisoners and also to the besieged and bombed people of Gaza".
In the same context, UFree Network called on Egyptian President to make sure that Israel releases Palestinian prisoners who were jailed again after being released in the Shalit prisoner swap deal, especially as prisoners Sami al-Isawi and Ayman Sharawna are in critical health conditions.
UFree network called on the free world to work hard to stop the aggression and massacres carried out by the Israeli war machine against innocent civilians in the Gaza Strip.

Witnesses: PA security block Israeli raid on Jenin

Palestinian Authority security forces on Wednesday blocked Israeli troops from entering the northern West Bank city of Jenin, witnesses said.
PA security patrols stationed at Beer al-Jamal, south of the city, stopped a number of Israel military vehicles, leading to long altercations between Palestinian officers and Israeli soldiers.
Eventually, Israeli troops left the area, witnesses told Ma'an.
An Israeli military spokeswoman did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
Overnight, Israeli forces detained 55 Palestinians in raids across the West Bank, the Israeli army said. Nine people were detained in three villages around Jenin, but none were detained from the city itself, a military statement said.
Under the 1993 Oslo agreement, the PA has full security control over urban center in the occupied West Bank, but Israeli forces enter almost every night to detain Palestinians and search homes. They instruct PA forces to return to their bases before the raids.
On Tuesday, a PA security officer said Palestinian forces had refused to provide security coordination to Israeli troops entering Tulkarem in the northern West Bank.
He said the Palestinian liaison officers turned down the request because the troops wanted to enter at the time children were going to school in the morning.
The PA security commander told Ma'an around 200 officers deployed around the city in front of Israeli military patrols. Israeli forces eventually retreated, he said.
An Israeli military spokesman did not respond to a request to comment on that incident.

Sharawna and al-Issawi step up their continuous hunger strike

A Human Rights organization said on Wednesday that the hunger strikers Samer al-Issawi and Ayman Sharawna started escalatory steps inside Ramle prison in 1948 occupied Palestine.
Fadi Obeidat, who visited the two prisoners, confirmed that they refused to go to the clinics as an escalatory step to pressure the prison administration to respond to their demands. They also decided to drink only water without sugar and vitamins.
Obeidat added that the two remaining Palestinian hunger strikers in Israeli prison are in immediate danger as their prolonged hunger strikes have led to a rapid deterioration in their health.
Sharawna's health has deteriorated so severely that he suffers chronic pain in his kidneys, low pulse, low blood pressure, where he is now unable to walk and is confined to bed.
Ayman Sharawna is in critical condition as his health continues to deteriorate. He has lost the vision in his right eye and has lost all feeling in body. He has been informed that his kidneys are not functioning properly and he also has extreme pain in his back, which prevents him from standing up. He refused to be treated due to the prison administration's pressures and bad treatment.
Other problems Ayman is suffering from include low immunity, low heart beat, low fat content, low blood pressure, low sugar levels.
The lawyer pointed out that the two strikers, al-Issawi and Sharawna, have been living in a single inappropriate room, and the prison administration did not discuss their case at all, claiming that the 'Shin Bet' is the responsible for their issue.
Al-Issawi and Sharawna are liberated prisoners were released in Shalit deal and then re-arrested by the occupation authorities without charge or trial, where Sharawna, from al-Khalil, started his open hunger strike on 1 July 2012, and al-Issawi, from occupied Jerusalem, launched his hunger strike on 08 January 2012.

Palestinian prisoners launch escalatory steps protesting the aggression on Gaza

The governmental Information Office in Gaza said that the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails started new escalatory steps to protest the continuous brutal aggression on the Gaza Strip.
The office stated that the captives sent a message from inside their cells on Friday evening in which they revealed that they have launched three escalatory steps inside the Israeli prisons.
The prisoners have refused to leave the prison cells for the daily stroll, for yesterday as well as today. They also refused to stand in line to be counted and refused the meals, in condemnation to the continuous Israeli occupation crimes in the Gaza Strip.
The office also quoted the prisoners as saying that the Israeli prison administration has been trying to hold negotiations with captives in order to dissuade them from these steps. However, the prisoners are determined to escalate their protests in condemnation of this brutal aggression, it added.
