Appeals to save life of patient captive Sami Shabalo

Family of captive Sami Shabalo, 70, appealed through Ahrar Center for Prisoners Studies and Human Rights to all human rights and humanitarian organizations to immediately intervene and save the patient prisoner's life.
The daughter of prisoner Sami Shabalo, from the city of Nablus, confirmed that her father's health situation has been seriously deteriorating, as he lost hearing and suffers from joint pain and constant headache.
For his part, Fouad Al Khuffash, Director of the Ahrar Center, denounced the arrest of the patient elderly man by the occupation forces, and stressed that Israel has been exercising tyranny and repression against all layers of the Palestinian society.
Captive Sami Shabalo was arrested on 21-5-2012, after storming his house in Nablus and has been held in the Ofer prison since then.
In turn, the head of the Ex-detainees Association, Tawfiq Abu Naim, stressed that prisoners in Israeli jails are suffering the cold weather as they are deprived of all means of heating and foods in many days and recurrent electricity outages.
Regarding visits of Gaza prisoners' families, Abu Naim explained that a small number of families were allowed to visit their detained sons, adding that visits are only permitted for first-degree relatives.
"We went through difficult periods in the prisons of the Zionist enemy," he said, pointing to the conditions of the patient prisoners and the prison administrations’ deliberate medical negligence.
He also pointed out that some medicines given by the IPS cause deterioration of the prisoner's health status and said that a number of sick prisoners had been given dogs' medicines.
Abu Naim has also criticized the continuation of the PA political arrests, especially against the liberated prisoners, and stressed the need to complete the Palestinian reconciliation and turn over the page of division.

Etzion administration adopts sadistic measures against prisoners

Prisoners in the Etzion detention center complained of the sadistic practices carried out by the Israeli Prison Service during the recent severe weather conditions. Lawyer Jacqueline Karajeh, who visited the prison on Friday morning, revealed that the prisoners have been exposed to harsh conditions, during the recent severe weather conditions.
The detainees told the lawyer that they are suffering from extreme cold due to the bad conditions of detention in cells designed for punishing them, noting that each cell contains a bathroom and one window that cannot be closed, which caused the rain water to enter and fill the rooms of prisoners.
They also stated that the prison administration has been deliberately torturing them with the cold weather through forcing them to sit on the ground filled with water during the daily count of prisoners.

Hundreds of Palestinians detained without evidence

Hundreds of Palestinians are jailed in Israeli prisons for long years for fake charges without evidence but used as a way of punishment carried out by the Israeli authorities against the prisoners.
The occupation authorities use the administrative detention policy, as an arbitrary policy to continue detaining Palestinians where they deliberately renew the prisoners' administrative detention on the day of their release to determine their will and steadfastness.
Human rights organizations agree that administrative detention is a form of political detention used by the occupation as a collective punishment against the Palestinians, in total violation of international law, especially the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights that states "everyone shall be entitled to a fair and public hearing by a competent, independent and impartial tribunal established by law."
Tadamun Foundation for Human Rights said in a statement that the Ofer court has turned 7 Palestinians to administrative detention, including two deputies in the Legislative Council, Yasser Mansour for six months from Nablus, and Fathi Qraawi for three months from Tulkarem.
For it part, The Arab Organization for Human Rights in Britain confirmed that 12 Palestinian MPs are still being detained in Israeli jails, including 7 MPS of Change and Reform bloc were turned to administrative detention.
Israeli authorities have escalated their arrest campaigns against Palestinian youths in different areas of the West Bank for fear of launching a third Intifada (uprising) where they detained them under the pretext secret files.
Not only Palestinian MPs suffered from the secret file, but also hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails were turned to administrative detention under the pretext of this invoked secret file.
For his part, Fuad Al-Khuffash, the director of Ahrar center for human rights, said that the Israeli occupation authorities deliberately extended the administrative detention of the prisoner hours before being released to kill the morale of the prisoners, a method of psychological torture used by the Prison Service against Palestinian prisoners

Calls for international parliamentary movement against administrative detention

The Arab Organization for Human Rights in Britain called for an international parliamentary broad movement to confront the policy of administrative detention.
The Organization issued a detailed report documenting the arrest of Palestinian MPs, who had been democratically elected in January 2006, noting that the Israeli authorities still detain 12 MPs, seven of whom have been transferred to the administrative detention.
Israel has been deliberately detaining the Palestinian MPs and ministers, representing the Change and Reform movement, since the 29th of June 2006, on charges of belonging to a banned bloc.
51 MPs and ministers have been arrested, some of whom were sentenced to long prison terms and others were held under administrative detention. Other MPs had been released to be re-arrested and transferred to administrative detention without charges.
The Arab Organization for Human Rights in Britain confirmed that the systematic policy of administrative detention is one type of torture pursued by the occupation, and exposes Israel's brutality and lies.

Argentine artist is in solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners

Argentine artist and human rights activist Elizabeth Drabkina announced her solidarity with the Palestinian hunger strikers in occupation jails, stressing through her paintings that the Palestinian prisoners are not alone.
“I’m an activist here in my country, not only for the rights of my people, also for the rights of others in the world, even if they are miles away, I think that they are part of the same struggle. We cannot expect the freedom only for a territory; the real freedom must be internationalist, because we cannot be free, if other brothers live behind the walls,” Elizabeth, 23, from Buenos Aires, Argentina, told Ahrar center for Prisoners studies and human rights.
At 19, I began to study the Palestinian issue my own way, books, papers, documentaries, and the internet, and took me a while to understand what was going on, identify the complicity of the countries that allowed (and continue to do) this open-air prison, countries that openly support Israel, those who are lackeys and those who prefer to look the other way, she said, adding that Ahrar Center's English site helped her to discover the Israeli crimes against the unarmed Palestinian people.
we participated in all the activities that had to do with the Palestinian’s struggle in my country, but always with a perspective based from the international people, in fact when I was on the demonstrations, shouting by my voice, I always accompanied the Palestinian flag, this made many people approach me and wanting to know more, she said.

4,600 prisoners face the cold wave without protection

The Palestinian Center for Prisoners' Studies confirmed that 4,600 Palestinian prisoners in nearly 20 Israeli prisons are facing the present cold wave without protection under harsh prison conditions.
Liberated prisoner Rafat Hamdouna, the director of the Center, stated in a press statement on Wednesday, that prisoners in general and those on hunger strike in particular suffer extreme weather conditions at a time when the Israeli Prison Service refuses to allow winter clothing, blankets and shoes for those prisoners.
He added that the suffering of the prisoners has doubled through this cold wave that is happening in the area now, especially as the H1N1 flu spreads in these days with the lack of medical care.
He stressed that the most affected prisoners from this cold wave are the ones on hunger strike, as the cold conditions makes it necessary to increase the food intake not the other way round.
He pointed out that this leads to the prisoners losing more weight especially that this cold weather will reduce the body's need for water.
The liberated prisoner called on all human rights institutions to check on the prisoners' situation in light of these bad conditions and to provide them with the basic supplies to protect them from extreme cold.

Documenting the torture of a Palestinian boy in occupation jails

Ahrar center for prisoners studies and human rights has documented the testimony of the child Saddam Al-Jabrai,14, about his detention period, as he was arrested on 7 December 2012, by Israeli soldiers near the Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil. He was released six days after his arrest on bail after being subjected to torture.
“I used to go always to the Ibrahimi Mosque and while I was sitting there, I didn’t notice that there was a knife near me and it really wasn't mine. The Israeli soldier came and noticed the knife.
Thinking it was mine, he started questioning me and tried to force me to say that the knife was mine. He started kicking me hard and was joined by two more soldiers," Saddam told the center.
Saddam’s hands were then tied tightly behind his back. “I felt much pain and I was blindfolded and taken to a military vehicle to Kiryat Arba, I was thinking about my parents who don’t know anything about this incident,” he explained.
I stayed in Kiryat Arba from 8 pm till 1 am without food or water. On the next day they transferred me to Atzion interrogation center where I spent night alone in a cell with only a piece of dry bread and cheese.
“I didn’t know the time. I was just thinking of my freedom. I am only 14. It was a very hard experience. On the next day they transferred me to Ofer military court and there I refused to admit that the knife is mine so they postponed the court, he added.
He stated that they put him with child prisoners, some of whom are sick, some others are denied family visits.
Saddam was released on 12 December 2012 after postponing his court four times.
Fuad Alkhuffash the center’s director said that the occupation did not take into account that the detainee is under age 18, and violated international law which forbids the detention of children under this age.

IOA tightens Abu Sissi's isolation after the aggression on Gaza

The deputy director of the Gaza Power Plant, Dirar Abu Sissi, the only isolated prisoner in Israeli jails, confirmed that the prison administration has tightened its measures in isolating him since the recent aggression on Gaza.
The Israeli intelligence service Mossad had kidnapped Abu Sissi, 44, in 2011 from Ukraine where he had been applying for citizenship to enable his family to leave Gaza, as his wife is Ukrainian. He was transferred to the occupied Palestinian territories and held in solitary confinement.
The occupation authorities refused to end Abu Sissi's isolation despite the fact that they agreed to end all the prisoners' isolation after April strike, for fear of revealing the mysteries of his abduction process.
Abu Sissi said in a letter from his solitary confinement in Ashkelon prison that his condition is very difficult, especially after the recent aggression on Gaza.
Abu Sissi is accused of developing resistance missiles that reached during the recent aggression on Gaza in November to the cities of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
He said that he suffers from the cold weather and that he asked for a hat but the prison authorities, which refused to allow in winter cloths and blankets for Palestinian prisoner have so far failed to provide him with a hat to keep his head warm.
Abu Sisi said that the Israeli Supreme Court rejected his appeal to be brought out of isolation, expressing hope that this year would witness relief for all those in distress.
Abu Sissi stressed on his high spirits despite the isolation bitter conditions, "While I was with other prisoners on hunger strike I was always saying that we will never leave any one in isolation but I didn't know that I will be the one who will remain in isolation," he said.

IOA extends detention of a Palestinian youth

The Israeli Magistrate's Court extended yesterday the detention of Ashraf Masri, despite his serious health condition and the severe pain he suffers from, as he had been attacked by the undercover unit.
Ahmed Masri, Ashraf's brother, pointed out that the Israeli occupation authorities has charged his brother with throwing stones and attempting to attack policemen in Issawiya, noting that the contradiction was clear in the testimony made by the "undercover unit".
He added that Ashraf suffers from severe pain in his face and vomits blood, noting that he asked the judge today to transfer his brother to the hospital.
The Palestinian young man had been taken to the hospital, after being arrested and attacked. He has been suffering from skull fractures and wounds in his right eye, however he has been taken out of the hospital to appear before the judge.
Meanwhile, the Israeli forces arrested yesterday 3 young men from Issawiya after breaking into a restaurant in the town, breaking its main door and searching it.
The occupation forces have also raided and searched the house of the citizen Khalil Ali Mahmoud in the village of Issawiya.
AOHR calls to end the administrative detention
Arab Organization for Human Rights in UK (AOHR) called for a wide Parliamentary movement to address administrative detention policy used by the Israeli intelligence to detain Palestinian citizens, deputies and ministers.
The organization issued on Wednesday a detailed report documenting the detention of Palestinian MPs elected in Palestinian legislative elections that took place in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and occupied Jerusalem in January 2006, where 12 deputies were arrested in Israeli jails, including seven deputies who were transferred to administrative detention.
The report highlighted the policy of administrative detention as a form of detention based on a decision issued by the so-called "regional military officer" who detains Palestinians based on being "guilty until proven innocent."
This detention policy does not rely on clear evidence or specific period, but based on arbitrary accusations to take revenge against Palestinians who oppose occupation.
The report said that the Israeli occupation authorities proceeded to arrest MPs affiliated with Change and Reform bloc as an attempt to eradicate the legislative elections.
The Israeli arrest campaign included 51 MPs and ministers detained in various prisons in occupied Palestine, charging with belonging to banned bloc and sentenced some of them to long prison terms and turned others to administrative detention.
Some of them were released after spending their provisions, but they were re-arrested and turned to administrative detention without any charges.
The organization stated that the Palestinian division encouraged the Israeli occupation to escalate their brutal policies against Palestinian deputies and ministers.
AOHR confirmed that administrative detention is a kind of torture that exposes the Israeli sadism and the Israeli criminal policies against unarmed people who seek to get rid of the continued occupation.
The organization called on the parliamentarians all over the world to take a decisive stand towards administrative detention used by the occupation as a routine weapon in the face of Palestinian citizens in general, and Palestinian MPs and ministers in particular, aiming to keep legitimate defenders of the Palestinian people behind bars.

Resheq denounces Israel for offering dog medicines to Palestinian prisoners

Political bureau member of Hamas lashed out at the Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) for offering medicines for dogs to Palestinian prisoners. He said in a press release on Wednesday that offering dog medicine to prisoners was a “racist crime” and an inhuman practice reflecting the IOA degradation.
The incident proves how far the IOA has become from human values and ethics, Resheq charged.
He described the incident as a shame on all those involved and on those who remain silent vis-à-vis such crimes.
The Hamas leader held the IOA responsible for the lives of those prisoners, and urged all human rights groups to criminalize such practice and to file lawsuits to bring to trial Israeli war criminals.

Israeli Official Strip-Search, Humiliate Prisoner’s Sister

Israel's Prison Service (IPS) at Rimon prison prevented the sister of the prisoner Iyad Nassar from Tul Karem from visiting her brother following a punishment imposed on the prisoner few weeks ago on claims he owned a sharp tool.
The prisoner's sister, Ghada Nassar, told the Palestinian prisoners society that as she arrived to the prison, she wanted to buy few things to her brother but one of the officials tore up the money she was holding, threw the cloths and strip-searched her for several hours. After arguing with Israeli officials, they allowed her to see her brother from afar. They also tore up the visit permit and her ID, and told her that her family is not allowed to visit their son anymore.
The Palestinian prisoner society condemned the IPS and said that such violent practices show hatred and Israeli authorities' desire to revenge from the prisoner and his family.
It's worth mentioning that the prisoner is sentenced to 30 years in prison, and served 11 years for now. He lost the sight in his left eye due to medical negligence.

Human Rights Center to Arab League: We want practical steps to support prisoners

The prisoners' center for studies expressed its wish that the Arab League meeting, on Tuesday at the level of permanent delegates to discuss the situation of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, will be distinct and not as its predecessor, which was held in 2009, stressing that the prisoners need practical steps to alleviate their suffering and not emotional slogans.
The director of the Center, Riad Al Ashqar, stated that a similar meeting at the level of permanent delegates was held in Cairo on 2009 to discuss the Israeli violations against the Palestinian prisoners and Arab detainees, where they approved many recommendations mainly to mandate the Arab Group in New York to apply for the General Assembly of the United Nations, to petition the international Court of Justice in The Hague, for a ruling on the legal status of Palestinian prisoners and Arab prisoners in Israeli occupation jails, according to the international law, as prisoners of war, as Palestinians have a legitimate right to resist the occupation. They also called for a meeting of the States parties to the Geneva Conventions to discuss Israel's refusal to apply these agreements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
They also called on the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva, to assume its legal and humanitarian responsibilities towards prisoners, and to visit Israeli prisons and detention center to ensure their conformity to the international agreements and treaties in this regard.
Riad al-Ashqar pointed out that none of these important recommendations have been followed up or implemented on the ground, calling on the Arab League not to hold other meetings but to apply what was decided at that meeting 3 years ago.
He called on the Arab League to regain its leading role, to adopt Arab causes especially the prisoners' issue in Israeli jails particularly the striker prisoners, calling for practical steps and not emotional slogans.
Abu Subbah calls on Arab League for practical steps to support striking captives
The Palestinian Minister of Prisoners, Dr. Attallah Abu Subbah, called on the Arab League to take practical and urgent steps to save the lives of prisoners on hunger strike, stressing on the seriousness of their health condition. Dr. Abu Subbah called in a press statement on Tuesday the permanent representatives of the Arab League, scheduled to meet and discuss the situation of Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails, to take practical and urgent steps and decisions in order to save the lives of the hunger striking captives and to stop the repressive measures committed by the Israeli government against them.
The minister stated that the occupation has continued to breach the agreements signed between the prisoners' senior leadership and the prison administration, under the Egyptian auspices.
He pointed to the continuation of the solitary confinement against some prisoners and the policy of renewing the administrative detention, without legal justification or charges.
He has also pointed to the re-arrest of eight prisoners who had been liberated under Wafaa al-Ahrar prisoner exchange deal, which pushed a number of captives, such as Sharawna and Issawi to launch an open-ended hunger strike.
The minister called for placing the issue of prisoners on top priorities of the Arab League and to internationally and legally activate it in front of all the international and humanitarian forums, especially the UN General Assembly, the UN Security Council and the UN Human Rights Council in order to stop the abuses committed against the prisoners.
