Meeting between Egyptian and Israeli delegations to end the strikers' suffering

Tadamun Foundation for Human Rights revealed a meeting held last Sunday between the Egyptian intelligence delegation and an Israeli delegation to discuss ways to end the striking prisoners' suffering. Ahmed Betawi, a researcher at the foundation, said that the Egyptian delegation has proposed the release of the 8 liberated prisoners who were re-arrested after being released within the Shalit deal and not to breach the deal's terms.
The delegation also discussed at this meeting the issue of the isolated prisoners, Awad Al-Saidi and Dirar Abu Sisi, and the striking prisoners' issue, as well as the administrative detention and sick prisoners' issue in Ramle prison hospital.
Betawi pointed out that the occupation authorities have not yet responded to the Egyptian proposals and ideas which "drafted in coordination with the Palestinian side."
In the same context Betawi noted that the prisoner Ayman Sharawna decided on Tuesday to suspend his open hunger strike until the next court date.
He said that Sharawna told the foundation lawyer, Muhammad Abid, during his visit on Tuesday that he decided to suspend his hunger strike until the next session of the Ofer Court, which is scheduled to be held on January 27.
Meanwhile, the PPS warned against the dangerous health situation of striking prisoners due to the medical neglect and their detention in inhumane conditions.
The hunger strikers, Tarek Kaadan, 41, and Jafar Azzedine, 33, and Youssef Shaaban, 31, have declared their open hunger strike since 51 days in protest at their administrative detention.
The warnings of the PPS came in light of the prisoners' abstention since the first day of the strike to take any kind of vitamins or sugar, refusing also to undergo any medical tests until meeting all their demands and to put an end to the Israeli violations.
PPS lawyer confirmed that Kaadan is still in high spirits and determined to continue his hunger strike despite the Israeli pressures.
Kaadan was detained since November 22, 2012 as stated in the statement of the PPS, a day before the end of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, where Jaafar and Youssef have received a decision to detain them administratively for three months.
The prisoner Kaadan noted that the prisoners Jafar Ezzedine and Yousef Shaaban Yassin were not able to get off to the visit because of their health deterioration.

Al-Eesawy Tried In Two Courts On Same Charges

Wednesday January 16; the Israeli District Court in Jerusalem denied an appeal filed by the defense attorney of hunger striking detainee, Samer Al-Eesawy, requesting the court to void its deliberation in his case as he is being tried on the same charges at the Ofer Military Court.
The District Court also ruled that Al-Eesawy will have to attend a court hearing on February 5, 2013.
Al-Eesawy, from Jerusalem, was one of more than a thousand Palestinian detainees who were released as part of the prisoner swap deal that secured the release of Israeli corporal Gilad Shalit on October 18, 2011 who was captured by the resistance in Gaza in 2006.
476 Palestinian detainees, including Al-Eesawy were released on the first phase of the agreement the same day Shalit was released.
But the Israeli army rearrested Al-Eesawy after claiming that he “violated the terms of his release” by heading to the occupied West Bank.
The Ofer Israeli Military Court and the Jerusalem District Court are now trying him on the same charges.
His lawyer is arguing that the District Court in Jerusalem cannot look into a case that involves what Israel described as “a military order violation”.
The District Court rejected the appeal, and decided to hold a session on February 5 to grant the prosecution more time to present its case.
Al-Eesawy is ongoing with his hunger strike that he started more than 176 days ago. His family said that he is determined to continue his strike until his release despite his sharply deteriorating health conditions and complications.

Family: Issawi could die any moment

Family of captive Samer Al-Issawi, who has been on hunger strike for 173 days in Israeli occupation jails, warned that he could face death any moment due to serious deterioration in his health condition.
The family, in a press release on Sunday night, quoted Issawi’s lawyer as saying that the hunger striker feels severe pain in the heart and convulsing seizures that last for 3-4 minutes.
The lawyer quoted Issawi as saying that he could not sleep because of the severe pain in his chest due to the broken ribs in addition to agonizing pain in his spine, kidney, and muscles. He added that Issawi was taken to the emergency clinic on several occasions because of weak pulse.
Issawi told his lawyer that he will nevertheless continue in his hunger strike, despite his serious health condition, until his just and legitimate demands are met.
The family called for more pressure and solidarity campaigns to demand Issawi’s release after his hunger strike entered a “critical stage”.

The increasing suffering of Megiddo Prisoners

Palestinian prisoners in Megiddo prison complained against the medical negligence, where they informed PPS' lawyer that the IPS prevented their medical treatment after previous promises to provide them with the doctors. PPS's lawyer said that the prison administration has cut off hot water in the cells despite this cold weather, violating the prisoners' rights, while continuing to ignore prisoners' complaints relating to this Israeli measure.
The prisoners highlighted the overcrowding problem caused by bringing new detainees permanently to the prisons, where more than one-third of the prisoners in Megiddo prison are new detainees, so they are taken directly from interrogation to Megiddo prison without possessing any of their basic needs.
The lawyer said that PPS is holding ten prisoners in each room, even though it does not accommodate more than eight.
They describe the transfer process to the courts as torment trip, where they are handcuffed for long hours, causing them severe pain.
The prisoners confirmed that the prison is witnessing a state of discontent and anger over the prison administration's policy, and therefore the prisoners began to study the possibility of raising a petition against the prison administration.
For his part, the PPS follows up closely the prisoners' issues and complaints through its lawyer.

An Israeli court adjourned the trial hearing of Eman Bani Odeh, a student at the Arab American University in Jenin, for the second time, the Ahrar center for human studies said. He said that his daughter was currently held in the Hasharon jail after two weeks of cruel interrogation rounds in Jalama detention center.

Israeli army uses violence to evacuate Bab Ashams village in east J'lem![]() A large force of Israeli troops and border guards used violence at dawn Sunday to evacuate the Palestinian activists in the newly-established Bab Ashams village in east Jerusalem.
The Palestinian information center (PIC) reporter in occupied Jerusalem said that the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) brutally attacked the activists and detained many of them. |

|
He added the detained Palestinian activists were taken in chain to Qalandiya checkpoint between Jerusalem and the West Bank and the wounded were admitted to Ramallah hospital.
Several foreign activists and journalists were also arrested and physically assaulted.
The Israeli higher court issued a verdict yesterday preventing the Israeli army or the police from evacuating the sit-in tents of Bab Ashams village which was set up by Palestinian and foreign activists in area E1.
The raid on the camp was carried out at the behest of Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu, according to a statement issued by his office yesterday.
The statement read that Netanyahu gave instructions to immediately evacuate the Palestinians present in the area between Maale Adumim and Jerusalem.
It added that the Israeli government would ask the higher court to revoke its decision to delay the evacuation of the camp, but until then the area would be declared a closed military zone and all roads leading to it would be blocked.
Earlier, the Hamas Movement called on the activists in the camp of Bab Ashams village to resist any Israeli attempt to evacuate them by force.
In a press release on Saturday, Hamas condemned the Israeli threats to attack the camp and said such step would be a violation of the international law and held Israel fully responsible for the consequences of its actions.
In this regard, Palestinian lawmaker Hatem Qafisha told the PIC that the idea of Bab Ashams village has become one of the new popular resistance methods and must be supported by all Palestinian political forces.
"But I think that the Israeli occupation may have noticed this method quickly and already moved to suppress it through declaring the area closed militarily and confronting the activists," MP Qafisha stated.
The lawmaker added that if such method was supported, there would be many areas in occupied Palestine like Bab Ashams village gaining national and international momentum.
He affirmed that many Palestinian areas need a similar village in order to protect them from the Israeli settlement activities.
The new village has been named after the epic novel Bab Ashams that was written by Lebanese writer Elias Khuri and means in English "the Gate of the Sun."
As part of the popular resistance movement in Palestine, the village was inaugurated Friday on a piece of Palestinian land in east Jerusalem, in an area referred to by Israel as E1 and designated for the expansion of Maale Adumim settlement.
Bedouin families living in the area confirmed that they own the lands which Israel wants to annex and even showed deeds proving their ownership.
The intended E1 settlement project aims at linking the illegal Maale Adumim settlement with east Jerusalem, thus illegally appropriating Palestinian lands and blocking the geographical contiguity of the occupied West Bank.
This illegal Israeli project, which received wide international condemnation, would divide the West Bank into two parts and completely isolate it from east Jerusalem, an action that would kill any chance to establish a future Palestinian state.
