Muhammad Allan: PA says Israel is Preventing Palestinian Doctor from Visiting
Picture
Senior Palestinian Authority officials, Sunday, accused Israeli authorities of preventing a Palestinian doctor from visiting Palestinian hunger striker Muhammad Allan at Barzilai Medical Center.

Issa Qaraqe, the head of the PA Prisoners' Affairs Committee, and PA Minister of Health Jawwad Awwad accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of personally interfering in the case and preventing Dr. Hani Abdeen from visiting Allan to examine his health.

According to Ma'an, they said that it was an attempt to conceal Allan's state of health, and that it indicated Netanyahu's "intention" to allow Allan to die.

Netanyahu's chief spokesperson, Mark Regev, said he could not confirm whether Netanyhu had interfered, but added that he "did not know that to be true."

The official Palestinian news site in Gaza, Al-Ray, said earlier on Sunday that Israeli authorities had decided to allow Dr. Abdeen to visit Allan.

Dr. Abdeen was selected by the PA Prisoners' Affairs Committee and the Ministry of Health after Palestinian members of the Israeli Knesset requested that a Palestinian doctor be allowed to examine Allan.

Allan, who is a lawyer from the West Bank village of Einabus, has been on hunger strike 62 days. He slipped into a coma on Friday after his health deteriorated sharply, and Barzilai Medical Center has since connected him to ventilators and is giving him fluids and sodium intravenously.

The medical center has suggested it might make use of a controversial new Israeli law to force feed him.

Allan went on hunger strike to protest his administrative detention -- internment without trial or charge -- which he has been held under since November.

Israeli Forces Kidnap 5 Palestinians, Seize Tractor
Picture
At least five Palestinians were abducted by the Israeli military during predawn raids across the West Bank, over the past 24 hours. The army also seized a tractor belonging to one of the locals in the Jordan Valley area, on Sunday, according to local and security sources.

WAFA Palestinian News & Info Agency reports that Israeli forces stormed the city of Bethlehem, in the southern West Bank, where they detained two Palestinians, identified as Mohammad Jamal Zaghoul, 20, and Mohammad Ali Hamamreh, 21, after raiding and searching their homes.

The army also stormed the nearby village of Marah-Rabah and served a local resident with a summons ordering him to appear for interrogation before Israeli intelligence, at the nearby Gush Etzion military base.

Meanwhile, in the Hebron district, the army detained 28-year-old Khalil Abu-Hashem at the entrance of the town of Beit Ummar. Army forces further broke into the town of Dora, south of Hebron, and notified a number of Palestinians to appear for interrogation.

Later Sunday, Israeli forces detained two Palestinian brothers from the village of Faroun near Tulkarm. The two were identified as Suhaib, 24, and Shadi Mousa, 26.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Israeli army seized a Palestinian-owned tractor in the village of Wadi Ibzeq, in northern Jordan Valley. The tractor is owned by Hatem Fawadleh, a local Palestinian.

The village has been a frequent target of daily Israeli violations, including forced evictions, demolition of animal barns, residential structures and other properties.

Hospital: Prisoner Mohamed Allan is still in very bad condition
Picture
The Israeli administration of Barzilai hospital in Ashkelon said that Palestinian prisoner Mohamed Allan, who has been on hunger strike for 61 days, is still in very critical health condition.

In press remarks on Sunday, the hospital director stated that Allan was given intravenous fluids, but he is still in a state of lethargy and temporary unconsciousness.

For its part, Israel's channel 7 said that a Palestinian doctor would visit the prisoner on Sunday, adding that there are Israeli and Palestinian efforts to save his life.

Palestinian lawyers organize sit-in rally in support of Allan

The President of the Palestinian Bar Association said in a statement Sunday that several members of the association's general assembly, as well as other Palestinian citizens of Israel will meet for a sit-in in front of Barzilai Medical Center in southern Israel, where Palestinian hunger striker Muhammad Allan is being treated.

Allan, a Palestinian lawyer who fell into a coma on Friday, has been on an open-ended hunger strike for over two months against his administrative detention, an Israeli policy wherein prisoners can be held without charge or trial, indefinitely.

Allan has been held under administrative detention status since November. Palestinian bar president Hussien Shabana said that Allan’s cause is a fair and just cause and must be made a priority for all Palestinian lawyers, as well as every free person in the world. He also demanded an escalation in solidarity with every Palestinian prisoner in Israeli jails, reminding the public that Allan's cause is not solitary.

Shabana added that there is an international movement among Palestinian lawyer unions as well as other lawyer unions across the Middle East to organize a national rally in front of court houses across the Arab world in order to shed light on the issue of Palestinian prisoners suffering in Israeli jails.

Allan's lawyer Jamil al-Khatib told Ma'an on Saturday that Allan's condition was "extremely critical" and that the hunger striker is currently connected to ventilators and receiving fluids intravenously.Al-Khatib added that administering Allan with fluids and vitamins intravenously does not break his hunger strike, but according to the Israeli Patient’s Right Act the treatment is considered life-saving.

Israeli authorities have previously said they would make use of a controversial new law to force feed Allan if his health became critical. The Israeli Knesset last month approved a law allowing prisoners on hunger strike to be force fed if their condition becomes life-threatening, sparking outcry from rights groups and medical experts.

The practice amounts to torture under international law.Hunger strikes are frequently used by Palestinian prisoners protesting their treatment and lack of due-process inside Israeli jails. There are nearly 6,000 Palestinians currently held in Israeli jails, around 400 of whom are being held under administrative detention.

Palestinians in Israel rally for hunger striker

Hundreds of Palestinian citizens of Israel staged a peaceful protest Saturday in support of Muhammad Allan, a Palestinian prisoner of Israel who has slipped into a coma after nearly two months on hunger strike.

Approximately 200 people including members of parliament joined the rally led by Sheikh Raed Salah, a preacher who heads the Islamic Movement's radical northern wing.

Demonstrators at the rally in Wadi Ara, north Israel, carried Palestinian flags and placards calling for the immediate release of 31-year-old Muhammed Allan and an end to his administrative detention, a procedure allowing indefinite detention without charge.

Allan, an Islamic Jihad-affiliated activist who has been held without charge since November, has been on hunger strike since June 18, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Club. On Friday, he lost consciousness at the Barzilai hospital in Ashkelon and was given fluids and salts intravenously, and is breathing with the aid of an artificial respirator.

A hospital spokeswoman on Saturday said his condition was stable, noting that the treatment was approved by Allan's family and adding that he would stay on the respirator at least until Sunday.

Allan had been refusing food as well as medical treatment, and it was feared he might be force-fed just weeks after Israel passed a law enabling the controversial procedure, sparking outcry from rights groups and medical experts. The practice amounts to torture under international law.

Hunger strikes are frequently used by Palestinian prisoners protesting their treatment and lack of due process inside of Israeli jails. There are nearly 6,000 Palestinians currently held in Israeli jails, around 400 of whom are being held under administrative detention.

In the southern West Bank city of Hebron dozens of demonstrators also held a peaceful rally for Allan, holding his picture and demanding his immediate release, an AFP reporter said.

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) early Sunday kidnapped a Palestinian citizen and summoned others for interrogation in the southern West Bank city of al-Khalil.

Local sources said the IOF rolled into al-Khalil’s towns of Beit Ummar and Dura and ravaged civilian homes moments before they kidnapped the citizen Khalil Abu Hashem and summoned three youths for interrogation.

The IOF rummaged through civilian homes and wreaked havoc on their properties, the same sources added.

PA security helps Israelis arrest one of its members in Ariha
Picture
The Palestinian Authority (PA) security on Saturday coordinated with the Israeli side to arrest one of its elements following his release from its jail in Ariha.

The man, who still works for the PA national security apparatus, was detained by the PA intelligence for about one year in Ariha jail because of his opposition to PA security practices in the West Bank.

A family source told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that the Palestinian intelligence officers of Ariha jail forced Samih Bisharat, 36, to leave the prison in order to be arrested by Israeli soldiers in a nearby area.

Once he arrived at the entrance to Ariha city, Israeli soldiers ambushed him at a makeshift checkpoint and took him handcuffed to one of their patrols in the 1948 occupied lands, the source explained.

Letter of protest to UK against the law of Administrative Detention
Picture
Palestinian youths handed the British Consular in Occupied Jerusalem a letter of protest against enacting the administrative detention law in the period of the British Mandate in Palestine.

The letter put blame on the United Kingdom (UK) for what Palestinian administrative detainees have been going through of abuse and violations in Israeli jails.

One of the Palestinians, who signed the letter, revealed that the British Consular refused to take the letter at first threatening the youths of summoning Israeli policemen to disperse their sit-in. The Palestinians continued, however, their activity until one of them was able to submit the letter to the Consular who conditioned evacuating the place immediately.

The Palestinian youth said, “We came here to ask the UK to cancel the administrative detention law and to pressure Israel to stop using it against Palestinian prisoners." The sit-inners charged Britain of responsibility for the life of captive Mohammad Allan as it was the one which set the law in the first place.

Jerusalemite youths have been staging the sit-in since last Monday at the Red Cross premises in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem in solidarity with Palestinian captive Allan who has been on hunger strike since June 16, 2015. He is now held in a Barzilai Medical Center.

State of unprecedented alert prevails in Israeli jails
Picture
Human rights sources revealed that an unprecedented state of high tension and alert is prevailing in Israeli jails in light of prisoners’ threats of taking escalated protest steps on the wake of the deterioration of the health condition of hunger striker Mohammad Allan.

In a press statement on Saturday, Prisoners Center for Studies disclosed that tension ran high in Israeli jails of Negev, Eshel, Raymond and Nafha. Prison administrations took several protective measures such as summoning of officials on leaves and prison directors, particularly, Negev prison director.

The administrations deployed large numbers of policemen and Special Forces on rooftops of sections whereas other policemen along with  jailers  stormed sections while equipped with batons and shields.

The center pointed out that the tension followed a statement issued by Palestinian prisoners threatening of painful reactions that would "astonish" the prison administration in case of anything wrong would happen to the hunger striker Mohammad Allan.

It stressed the importance of urgent action on the local and international levels via media and human rights organizations in support of Allan. The center also called for putting pressure on Israel to save Allan’s life as he has entered the third month of continuous hunger strike.

Lawyer: Allan refused 2-year administrative detention deal before coma
Picture
Muhammad Allan, who has been on hunger strike for more than 60 days, had refused an Israeli offer to continue his administrative detention for a period of two years, Allan's lawyer told Ma'an Saturday.

Allan's lawyer Jamil al-Khatib told Ma'an that the offer was made before his health condition was critical. Allan remains at Israeli Barzilai Medical Center, where hewent into a coma on Friday, andis currently connected to ventilators and intravenous fluids.

His
health condition has been rapidly deteriorating,al-Khatib said. A spokesperson for the International Committee of the Red Cross told Ma'an on Friday that Allan's situation is "extremely critical."

Allan's mother was allowed to visit her son after ICRC coordinated permission with Israeli authorities, a spokesperson for the organization told Ma'an. According to al-Khatib, Allan’s mother has remained in the medical center. When exiting her son's hospital room on Friday afternoon, Allan's mother told Ma'an that her son was dying.

Physicians for Human Rights - Israel said Friday that once Allan lost consciousness "medical ethics requires that his doctors act in accordance to their understanding of the patient's will and their discretion."

Al-Khatib added that Allan’s medical treatment of being administered fluids and vitamins intravenously does not break his strike, but according to the Israeli Patient’s Right Act the treatment is considered life-saving.

The practice amounts to torture under international law.

Al-Quds Brigades absolves itself of truce if prisoner Allan dies

Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, has warned that it will be absolved of the truce agreement with Israel in Gaza if administrative detainee Mohamed Allan died due to his long hunger strike.

The Brigades also threatened in a press release on Friday to respond strongly if Allan died in prison.

The Israeli jailers transferred Allan a few days ago to Barzilai hospital after he went into a coma as a result of two months of hunger strike in protest his detention administratively with no guilt.
