The Israeli high court of justice on Tuesday approved a prosecutor’s request to extend the monitoring of Sheikh Ra’ed Saleh, head of the Islamic Movement in the 1948 occupied lands, with an electronic ankle tag (GPS and eavesdropping device).
Accordingly, Sheikh Salah will have the tracking device around his ankle for three additional months.
Lawyer Khaled Zabarqa, who represents Sheikh Salah, said that Sheikh has been placed under home detention and electronic monitoring since July 6, 2018 after he spent 11 months in solitary confinement.
Zabarqa said that Sheikh Salah attended the court session on Tuesday and addressed the judges.
“After listening to all witnesses and Sheikh Salah regarding the case, it became evident that there was no justification whatsoever to keep the Sheikh under solitary confinement or any restraint,” the lawyer stated.
“There is no offense committed by the Sheikh, but it is political persecution for religious and ideological reasons,” he added.

Six Palestinian prisoners started an open-ended hunger strike on Tuesday in protest at their exposure to suppression and their arbitrary transfer from Ofer jail.
The hunger strikers are Mohamed Khatba, Osama Odeh, Mu’taz Hamed, Tha’er Hamayel, Rami Hayfa and Shadi Shalaldeh, according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS).
PPS said that the talks between representatives of prisoners and Ofer jailers failed after the latter insisted on not ending the isolation of some detainees and not bringing back others who were transferred from the jail.
The jail administration also refused to respond to other demands raised during the talks, especially about the issues that led to the recent tension in the prison.
On August 4, Israeli prison forces stormed prisoners’ rooms in sections 20 and 19, violently assaulted them and transferred many of them to isolation cells and other jails.
Among the detainees who were assaulted in those sections were children under age 18.
Such practices prompted other prisoner in Ofer jail to refuse to take meals served to them by jailers or practice their routine prison activities.
The prison administration, in turn, has continued to shut down the commissary and the laundry room as part of oppressive measures against the prisoners.

Muhammad Elayyan (4) was summoned to interrogation by the Israeli police for "throwing stones at Israeli soldiers"
Israeli ongoing detention and interrogation of Palestinian children are crimes against humanity, the Ministry of Education (MoE) said in a statement on Tuesday.
The ministry condemned the continuation of Occupation repressive, systematic measures against Palestinian children and minor students, especially in Jerusalem, stressing that these practices are grave and continuous crimes against Palestinian children.
The Ministry pointed out that such practices represent a flagrant violation of international conventions, specifically Article 16 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child which states that “No child shall be subjected to arbitrary or unlawful interference with his or her privacy, family, home, or correspondence, nor to unlawful attacks on his or her honor and reputation.”
The Ministry added that the scene of summoning the child Mohammed Elyyan, from the town of Al-Issawiya, for interrogation is disgraceful and reflects the brutality of Occupation and reveals its blatant violation of all rights and conventions and human values.
It also drew attention to the harsh psychological effects of arrests and detentions of children in poor health conditions, stressing that the continued violations of Occupation against Palestinian children come as a result of international silence on these criminal practices.
The Ministry renewed its demand that all local and international human rights, humanitarian, and media institutions bear their responsibilities, put an end to these violations, and hold Occupation accountable for its escalating crimes against the Palestinian children.
