A Jordanian prisoner in Israeli custody ended a 47-day hunger strike on Sunday, reaching an agreement with the Israeli Prison Service.
Prisoner Abdullah Abu Jaber went on hunger strike on Nov. 11 demanding that Israel allow him to see out the remaining five years of his 20-year sentence in Jordanian custody.
He was imprisoned in December 2000 after he was convicted of detonating an explosive device in a bus in Tel Aviv.
Hanan al-Khatib, a lawyer for the Palestinian Authority Committee for Prisoners' Affairs, said Abu Jaber had ended the hunger strike but she did not provide details of the agreement reached with Israel's prison service.
She said that Abu Jaber was receiving medical treatment at the Ramla prison clinic.
Last week, the prisoner was moved to a civilian hospital after his health deteriorated, and the Israel authorities threatened to force-feed him if he continued his hunger strike.
Israel's parliament approved the use of force-feeding over the summer, sparking outcry from rights groups and medical experts.
The law "will be used only if a doctor determines that the continued hunger strike will create an immediate risk to the life of a prisoner or long-term damage to his health," David Amsalem of the ruling Likud party said at the time.
The Israeli Medical Association quickly branded the law as "tantamount to torture." On Thursday last week 25 Palestinian prisoners in Etzion jail launched a hunger strike to protest violations carried out by the Israeli Prison Service.
A lawyer for the Palestinian Prisoners' Society, Jacqueline Fararj, told Ma'an News Agency that she had documented numerous violations against Palestinians held in the jail, including physical assault and poor living conditions.

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Saturday came down heavily on a group of Palestinian activists who formed what they called “the longest human chain” around the Old City’s walls to push for the release of slain Palestinians’ bodies.
Hundreds of people participated in the protest despite the heavy presence of Israeli troops who fired sound bombs and tear gas canisters soon as the protesters gathered in the area.
The rally-goers demanded that the Israeli occupation authorities hand over bodies of those killed to their families so that they can bid them last farewell before their burial.
A PIC journalist said a number of protesters were injured and others were chased down and arrested by the occupation soldiers.
The demonstrators gathered near the Bab al-Sahira, raising photos of the slain Palestinians and lifting banners calling for releasing their bodies.
The protesters were attacked, as they advanced hand in hand, by the Israeli troops who violently disbanded the march using tear gas grenades and rubber bullets. Several activists were subjected to heavy beating in the assault.
Spokesperson for the families of slain Palestinians, Muhammad Alyan, said: “We formed the longest human chain to restore the bodies of our sons and daughters. The Israeli occupation does not have the right to withhold dead bodies. This is a policy of collective punishment and a poof of Israel’s inherently sadistic nature.”
Former Minister of Jerusalem Affairs, Hatem Abdul Kader, said Israel’s seizure of Palestinian bodies is a war crime against the victims and their families alike.
He vowed that Jerusalemites shall never remain mum over such crimes and will resort to all possible means to release the dead bodies.
According to the Red Crescent, at least 20 Palestinians were injured in the Israeli attack on the human chain.
The bodies of over 50 Palestinians killed by the occupation troops since early October have been withheld by the Israeli occupation, in a move dubbed by observers an attempt to snuff out the flames of anti-occupation activism among the Palestinians.

A Palestinian Family called for immediately releasing their hunger-striking relative Muhammad al-Qeiq, held in Israeli lock-ups, and revealing his condition before it is too late.
A PIC news reporter said the family of Palestinian journalist Muhammad al-Qeiq appealed, during a press conference, to the Prisoners Committee, the Palestinian Prisoners Society, the Journalists Syndicate, and the International Red Cross, among other human rights organizations, to urgently intervene and work on releasing their son.
Lawyer Ashraf Abu Sneina quoted hunger-striking al-Qeiq as stating at the Ofer Court that he has been prevented from family visits for 32 days, during which he has been starving in solitary lock-downs.
Al-Qeiq reportedly spoke out against the apathy maintained by human rights groups and activists, adding that no single person or party visited him or tried to keep tabs on his health condition and needs.
Ex-prisoner Khader Adnan called for mobilizing support for al-Qeiq.
The detainee’s wife, journalist Fayhaa Shalash, said her husband has entered his 32nd day of hunger-strike in protest at being arbitrarily incarcerated in Israeli jails.
According to the wife, the fact that her husband was convicted because he asserted his own rights to the freedom of speech and the freedom of press stands in sharp contrast to all international laws and treaties.
“So far, no single piece of information has been released on the place and conditions in which my husband is being jailed,” the wife further stated, voicing her concern over her husband’s unknown condition.
She added that a protest tent is to be pitched in front of al-Qeiq’s family home until his release.

Several Palestinians choked on tear gas after the IOF showered the Palestinian civilian homes with tear gas canisters.
The assault culminated in the abduction of 18-year-old Daniel Reyad Abu Surur. The IOF dragged him to an unidentified destination after they subjected him to heavy beating.
Violent clashes also rocked Bethlehem’s northern town of Takou’a, where several Palestinians sustained critical breathing disorders after they were attacked by barrages of tear gas canisters.
The IOF further stormed al-Issawiya, in eastern Occupied Jerusalem, and targeted Palestinian family homes with spates of tear gas grenades and rubber bullets, activist Muhammad Abu al-Humus said.
Abu al-Humus added that violent clashes burst out in the area after the IOF provoked the Palestinian protesters.
The occupation troops reportedly wreaked havoc on a local restaurant.
“Such attacks by the IOF aim at dampening the spirits of Palestinian Jerusalemites and quelling anti-occupation activism in the area,” he added.
