The Palestinian Detainees and Ex-Detainees Committee Studies and Documentation Unit documented in a report that Israel has detained a total of 5,934 children over the past five years.
The committee said 2000 to 2010, Israel detained an average of 700 Palestinian children per year, but given the recent detention spike, the annual average has jumped to 1,200.
The unit documented that Israel detained a total of 2,179 children in 2015, accounting 36.7% of the total number of children detained over the last five years up from 21.3% in 2014.
It added that the total number of children detained by Israel in 2013 accounted for 15.7% of the total number of children detained over the last five years up from 14.8% in 2012 and 11.5% in 2011.
The committee explained that the above-listed percentages demonstrate that the number of children detained has been steadily increasing over the past five years.
The unit noted that the total number of children detained in 2015 increased by 72.1% and by over 134% from the number of children detained in 2014 and 2013 respectively.
It also noted that the total number of detainees in 2015 increased by 147.3% and 221.9% in comparison to the total number of children detained in 2012 and 2011 respectively.
The unit concluded that Israel’s detention of Palestinian children in Jerusalem has been steadily increasing over the last five years and has reached a peak of 1,500 in last October.
Commenting on the data, head of the committee Issa Qaraqe' said that 2015 was a year of intimidation and brutal torture of Palestinian children and that Israel tortured and mistreated one hundred percent of children in Jerusalem.
He added that Israel has enacted a law concerning detaining and beating Palestinian children not because of security reasons, but to destroy their future and dreams.

The Israeli occupation police on Monday extended an order banning Sheikh Ra'ed Salah, head of the Islamic Movement in the 1948 occupied lands, from entering Occupied Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque for six more months.
The Israeli police has been renewing the entry ban against Sheikh Salah since 2007.
For his part, Sheikh Salah condemned the extension order and expressed his strong belief that the Israeli occupation would not last forever.
"The persistence of the Israeli entity in its injustice increases our faith in the demise and defeat of the occupation," the Islamic Movement leader said.
An Israeli police officer on Monday handed Sheikh Salah the renewed verdict in the protest tent which was erected recently in Umm al-Fahm city to denounce the Israeli decision that classified the Islamic Movement as a banned group.

The family members of the prisoner Bassam Amin Sayeh, from the city of Nablus in the northern West Bank, are gripped by fear and anxiety over the unknown fate of their son who was arrested three months ago with almost no news about him until now.
Captive Sayeh, 43 , who is currently languishing in Ramleh prison hospital, suffered a lot from detention and torture for more than twenty years, but his recent arrest is the most threatening for his life, as he is suffering from serious diseases; bone cancer and leukemia.
In his turn, chief of the Palestinian Prisoners and ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority , Issa Qaraqe, warned a few days ago of the seriousness of prisoner Sayeh's health status, stressing that he is fighting for his life. Qaraqe called for his release and immediate intervention to save his life.
Chapters of suffering
Captive Sayeh was born in the city of Nablus in 1972, for a family committed to their religion, which left a mark on his character and reflected on the course of his life.
He studied at the schools of Nablus, and then enrolled at Najah University to study political science and journalism.
After graduating he was self-employed as he was not accepted for employment at the official government posts because of his political affiliation. He worked in the media and held the post of general manager of "Palestine" newspaper, and then he enrolled at the University of Najah to obtain a Master's degree in planning and political development.
Sayeh's suffering did not start with his recent arrest in October 2015, but began with his first arrest in 1996 by the Palestinian security services (PSS), which had entered Nablus only a few months before. In the PSS prison, he was exposed to severe torture.
In 1998 Sayeh was arrested again by the PSS, in which prisons he spent several months, and in 2001 he was arrested by the PSS with his colleague martyr Mohammed al-Hanbali.
In the first Israeli military sweep in the city of Nablus in 2002, he experienced for the first time arrest at the hands of the Israeli occupation forces (IOF), which set up an ambush for him at the entrance of the Old City of Nablus. He spent in the Israeli prisons a year and a half in administrative detention.
After Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip in 2007, Sayeh was among thousands of Hamas members who were arrested by the PSS, and was interrogated and tortured severely in the cells of the Palestinian Authority (PA) intelligence for more than two months, and as a result of torture he could not walk on his feet for several months.
A week after his wedding in 2008, Sayeh was arrested again, and was severely and brutally tortured for 5 months in Junied prison, before being transferred to Jericho prison.
In 2011 he was arrested by the PSS which detained him again in Junied prison, where he was subjected to severe torture, and later his family was told to come and pick him up from the hospital.
After his recent arrest by the security services, he was diagnosed with bone cancer, but when it was at an advanced stage already, so he began the arduous treatment journey which increased his suffering and weakened his body.
As a result of therapy sessions he underwent, he suffered from other serious diseases. He was then diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, the treatment of which caused him acute heart failure and muscle atrophy in the lungs and difficulty in breathing.
Into the darkness of prisons
Still patient and persistent, another calamity was added to his previous ones, as in April 2015 the IOF broke into his house and arrested his wife, Mona Abu Bakr, who was his best supporter in his illness.
His wife's absence in prison for six months had had a significant impact on his health condition, added to that his concern for his wife's health status as she was suffering from several diseases.
His wife told the PIC reporter that: "During the period of my arrest Bassam was not able to visit me; I could only see him in court hearings for no more than two minutes."
She added that despite her diseases, but the concern for her husband was compounding the suffering, especially that investigators had been using that to pressure on her during the interrogation. She said: "They threatened me constantly of arresting Bassam, and sometimes they would tell me that he is in a serious condition at the hospital."
From 8-10-2015 the day on which a court hearing was held for his wife but he could not attend it because he was arrested, until now, Mona was unable to see her husband again
According to his wife, the Ramle prison administration refused to enter the chemotherapy, which he receives once every three months, claiming that they provide him with appropriate treatment. And because of the Israel Prison Service’s procedures, his family has not been able yet to enter any clothes for him.
Common tragedy
Mona said: "I live a state of anxiety and confusion since the arrest of my husband, and I feel that my life has stopped; this increases with the repeated raids carried out by the IOF into our house."
Captive Sayeh's Mother, Um Khaled, an elderly woman in her seventies, seemed patient despite her worries about her son, Bassam.
Bassam is not the only son of Um Khaled in Israeli jails, Bassam's brother Amjad has been in prison since 2002 after being seriously wounded during the IOF chase of a group belonging to the al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, near Nablus, and is serving a prison sentence of 20 years.
Um Khaled launched a cry via the PIC on all officials and decision-makers to save the life of her son, Bassam.
She said that: "Three months have passed and we have not yet received any clear information about Bassam; and we do not see any effective action of the concerned parties to put pressure on the occupation to release him, what are they waiting for?”
Um Khalid launched her appeal in the hope that it will not be neglected similar to other appeals voiced before by mothers of prisoners.

In a blatant violation of the Muslims' freedom of worship, the Israeli prosecution office has asked a court in Occupied Jerusalem to criminalize the use of the Islamic Thakbir expression, "Allahu Akbar (God is the greatest)," inside the Aqsa Mosque.
This came up after the Israeli police arrested a Palestinian young man from the 1948 occupied lands on a charge of shouting Allahu Akbar as a horde of Jewish settlers were touring the Mosque's courtyards.
The police claimed that chanting such a religious slogan would stir up riots at the Mosque.
Palestinian lawyer Ramzi Katilat described the Israeli step as a dangerous precedent, pointing out that the previous arrest incidents that had happened at the Mosque because of shouting Thakbir were not dealt with as a crime and only led the police to question the detainee and then release him or ban his entry to the Islamic holy shrine.
Katilat affirmed that he and other lawyers would file a petition with the same court to explain that the Thakbir chant inside the Mosque is part of the freedoms of worship and expression and how the prosecutor's request would violate these rights.

Jordanian Prisoner Abdullah Abu Jaber has been on an open-ended hunger strike for 47 days, during which he has been subjected to severe intimidation by the Israeli prison authorities, who threatened to force-feed him in case he does not suspend the strike.
Some few days ago, the Israeli prison service transferred Abu Jaber to the Afoula hospital as his health status has remarkably gone down.
Prisoner Abu Jaber appealed to the concerned authorities to allow his family to visit him and reach him by phone. He also called for being transferred to Jordanian prisons to serve the remaining five years, out of a 20-year-sentence.
Abu Jaber said he will keep up the hunger strike until his demands are met.
Earlier, some three months ago, the inmate suspended a 20-day hunger strike after a Jordanian consul popped in jail and vowed to negotiate his release with the Israeli occupation authorities.
Alarm bells have often been raised on the sharp deterioration rocking Abu Jaber’s health status due to the hunger strike and the dire detention circumstances he has been made to endure in Israeli lock-ups.
The prisoners’ and ex-prisoners’ committee said in a press statement the Israeli threats to force-feed the detainee are incontestable proofs of his critical health condition.
The committee held the Israeli occupation responsible for Abu Jaber’s life and called on all concerned bodies to urgently intervene and save the detainee before it is too late.
