Israeli navy arrests two Gazan fishermen
Picture
The Israeli Navy forces arrested on Monday two Palestinian fishermen while sailing off Gaza shores. Their fishing boat was also confiscated during the incident.

Nizar Ayyash, the head of the fishermen association of the Gaza Strip, said on Monday that the fishermen were sailing in their boats off the coast of Gaza when the Israeli navy forces arrested them.

The two detainees were then taken under gun threat to the Israeli-controlled Ashdod port to the north of Gaza, he added.

Following the 51-day Israeli war on Gaza in July and August 2014, Israeli authorities agreed to immediately expand the fishing zone off the coast of Gaza, allowing fishermen to sail as far as six nautical miles off the shore. However, Palestinian fishermen in Gaza regularly face such attacks by Israeli navy forces before they reach the designated fishing zone, which was later restricted to only three nautical miles.

Legislator Jarrar Sentenced To 15 Months
Picture

The PFLP denounced the ruling and said it shows the unjust, chaotic and arbitrary nature of Israeli courts and the legal system in dealing with Palestinian political prisoners.

The PFLP reiterated its firm stance in not recognizing Israeli military courts, as they are part of the illegal occupation of Palestine.

It also demanded referring the file of all detained legislators to the United Nations, in addition to calling for an urgent meeting of the Security Council to discuss the issues of Palestinian political prisoners, including detained women facing constant violations.

"Israel is deliberately targeting elected and senior political leaders of various factions in Palestine," the PFLP said, "Jarrar is an important political figure, a symbol for steadfastness and determination; she always held her head high and challenged the Israeli abuse and violations.”

The PFLP also stated that Israel is trying to increase its pressure, and is escalating its violations, against Palestinian women, holding important roles in leading the national struggle against the occupation.

A Palestinian dinosaur in the Negev Prison?
Picture
Emad Abd al-Rahim

"Have you ever seen a dinosaur? Have you thought of a dinosaurin the 21st century?" Dinosaurs are extinct. That’s for a fact. But in Israeli Jails, Palestinian political prisoners have named one for their comrades “the dinosaur”. Why was he called the dinosaur?

Emad Abd al-Rahim, a 50-year-old prisoner from Salfit, was known as the dinosaur, to the extent that almost no prisoner knew his real name.

Emad Abd al-Rahim was born and raised in Salfit in 1966. He was engaged in national struggle and resistance at an early age. He was first arrested in 1988, and was released one year later.

In 1992, Abd al-Rahim was arrested again as he attempted to drive a booby trapped car, prepared by Palestinian engineer Yahya Ayyash, into the occupied Palestinian lands of 1948. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison, of which he spent 19 years transferring between all the Israeli prisons.

Emad Abd al-Rahim was known for his resilience and struggle against the Israeli occupation in and out the Israeli jails, and he once attempted to escape Shata Prison in 1998, along with 24 Palestinian prisoners.

Freedom then imprisonment

For all these traits, he was called the dinosaur; however, Eman along with all his brothers in arms refuse to fall extinct despite Israeli occupation brutality.

Abd al-Rahim was set free in the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange that followed an agreement between Israel and Hamas to release captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in exchange for 1,027 prisoners in 2011.

Abd al-Rahim got married after he was released and he had a daughter, Amina, whom he named after his mother who passed away while he was in prison.

In 2014, the Israeli authorities re-arrested him after the disappearance of the three Israeli settlers in Hebron. He is still in prison today as the Israeli court reinstated his previous sentence, and is imprisoning him to complete the left 11 years, thus violating the agreement brokered by Egypt and throwing to the winds all understandings about freed prisoners.
