Palestinian detainees subjected to medical neglect in Israeli jails
Picture
wo Palestinian detainees have been subjected to preplanned medical neglect in Israeli jails, the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) reported Sunday.

A statement by the PPS raised alarm bells over the exacerbated health status of 53-year-old prisoner Nizar Zaydan, who has been waiting for an urgent catheterization for the past eight months.

Prisoner Zaydan has also been diagnosed with hemiplegia in his left limbs caused by a wrong injection given to him by Israeli prison doctors in 2009.

Detained in 2002, Zaydan is currently serving a 37-year-sentence at the Eshel lock-up.

Palestinian inmate Muhammad Kassem al-Areda, 35, has also been suffering excruciating chest pains, critical breathing disorders, and vision problems for over a year.

The inmate has not received any special medical therapy even when he was transferred to hospital, the PPS added.

Prisoner al-Areda, detained since 2002, is serving three life-sentences and 20 years in jail. He is currently held in the Ramon lock-up.

IOF storms Palestinian schools, attacks pupils in al-Khalil
Picture
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) stormed on Sunday morning two schools in al-Khalil, sparking fear among schoolchildren.

Activist Rateb al-Jabour said the Israeli occupation army rolled into Yatta town and violently searched al-Majaz school, generating a remarkable state of terror among the students.

The IOF summoned one of the school staff, Moussa Abu Aram, for questioning.

The occupation troops further stormed al-Musafir basic school and wreaked havoc on its classrooms.

In a related development, violent clashes burst out in al-Khader town, in Bethlehem, after the IOF targeted schoolchildren with randomly-shot volleys of tear gas canisters.

Health of prisoner Sayeh at critical stage
Picture
The health condition of Palestinian prisoner Bassam As-Sayeh, who suffers from cancer, has reached a life-threatening stage and he may die any moment, the Palestinian commission for the affairs of detainees and ex-detainees said.

Head of the commission Issa Qaraqie called for releasing prisoner Sayeh immediately and providing him with urgent medical care to save his life.

According to Qaraqie, the prisoner suffers from acute myeloid leukemia as well as heart and respiratory problems, and he is now in the infirmary of Ramla jail.

The Palestinian official held the Israeli government fully responsible for the life of the prisoner, affirming that his health status sharply declined in Israeli jails.

Palestinian young woman shot, arrested after alleged stabbing attempt
Picture
Israeli occupation forces (IOF) shot and arrested a young Palestinian woman in al-Khalil at noon Sunday after claiming she tried to stab a soldier.

Local sources told the PIC reporter that the young woman was walking in al-Shuhada street near the Ibrahimi Mosque when she was shot and injured in her head by the IOF soldiers.

They said that the girl suffered moderate wounds and was detained by the soldiers.

The sources pointed out that a number of local youths were wounded when they tried to help the girl, adding that one of them was injured in his face after the IOF soldiers and snipers on rooftops of nearby buildings fired teargas canisters and live bullets at them.

Violent confrontations were reported in nearby Bab el-Zawiya after the incident between the IOF soldiers and young men.

Palestinian shot after stab attempt in Hebron's Old City

Israeli forces on Sunday shot a Palestinian near an Israeli military checkpoint at the entrance of al-Shuhada street in Hebron’s Old City after she attempted to carry out a stabbing attack.

Witnesses told Ma'an that a 35-year-old woman from a Hebron-area village attempted to stab a soldier before she was shot in the head with a rubber-coated steel bullet.

According to witnesses, a young Palestinian man approached the woman and attempted to help her but was prevented when he was also shot by a rubber-coated steel bullet.

Palestinian Red Crescent paramedics then gave the woman medical treatment on site before she was taken into custody by Israeli soldiers, witnesses added.

Israeli media reported that the woman was in moderate to serious condition after being shot.

An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed the incident but told Ma’an they were still investigating details of the attempted attack.

The attack attempt is the latest to take place in the occupied Palestinian territory, where an escalation of violence that kicked off in October has continued full-fledged into December.

Hebron’s Old City has been at the epicenter of the recent tensions, where Israeli forces last week shot and injured 16-year-old Lama Munthir Hafith al-Bakri northeast of Hebron’s Old City after the army said she attempted to stab an Israeli pedestrian.

Palestinian residents of the Hebron governorate have remained under severe restrictions on movement for several weeks.

Routes leading from Hebron-area villages to main traffic arteries have either been entirely blocked to vehicular movement or are controlled by flying checkpoints manned by Israeli military forces, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Hebron’s Old City was meanwhile declared a closed military zone last month, with entrance only allowed to Palestinian residents of the Israeli-controlled H2 area as well as Israeli settlers that live in illegal settlements across the area.

Hundreds of Palestinians from across the Hebron district last week protested for the return of the bodies of 21 Palestinians who were killed by Israeli military or settlers.

Israeli authorities have withheld the bodies of suspected attackers from the families, sparking outrage especially among Hebron communities.

Palestinians injured, kidnapped in Israeli overnight WB sweep
Picture
An abduction sweep by the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) rocked the occupied West Bank overnight Saturday and culminated in violent clashes across the region.

Sources based in al-Khalil, in the southern West Bank, said the IOF rolled into the city and kidnapped three Palestinian citizens.

The IOF further stormed Beit Ummar town, where they wreaked havoc on Morshed Awad’s family home and smashed the gates of a local shop.

A series of arbitrary home break-ins was also documented in Yatta and Samou’ along with several towns of western al-Khalil.

Israeli soldiers, cops and settlers also rolled into Nablus’ southern village of Duma at predawn time and performed a mock arson attack on the Dawabsheh family home.

By-standers at the scene said 20 Israeli army jeeps rolled into Duma at 2 a.m. and stopped at the Dawabsheh family home, where three settlers mimicked the arson attack carried out on July 31, 2015 by Israeli vandals, burning 18-month-old Ali and his parents to death.

Meanwhile, violent clashes burst out in Tamoun village, in Tubas, where the occupation patrols attacked Palestinian protesters and civilian homes with live rounds and tear gas canisters.

A number of Palestinian civilians were rushed to local clinics after they were hit by live bullet shrapnel. Others were treated for critical breathing disorders due to heavy tear gas inhalation.

The IOF further sealed off the Hamra checkpoint and propped up military grip around the area.

Dozens of Israeli settlers stormed Qaryout, in southern Nablus, and cordoned off a Palestinian land near the illegal Gilo settlement with barbed wire in an attempt to hold sway over the land lot.

The IOF further stormed Aleziyera town, near Occupied Jerusalem, and kidnapped an unidentified youth.

Tulkarem-based sources also spoke out against the frequent assaults by Israeli settlers and soldiers on the Palestinian natives and homes.

Locals said a set of makeshift roadblocks has been randomly pitched across Tulkarem, where Palestinian civilians have been subjected to exhaustive questioning and provocation on a quasi-daily basis.

PFLP calls on Bulgaria not to deport Palestinian ex-detainee to Israel
Picture
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) has asked the Bulgarian authorities not to respond to Israel's request to hand it over Palestinian ex-detainee Omar Zayed, warning of serious consequences for such action.

In a press release on Saturday, the PFLP said that if Bulgaria took such measure against Zayed, it would be considered a dangerous precedent and a prelude to the arrest and prosecution of Palestinians and Arabs, especially the ex-detainees, living in Europe.

It described the case of Zayed as a national issue with political dimensions and the story of a person who struggled for the freedom of his people, stressing that the international law gave him the right to resist the occupation.

The PFLP urged the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian embassies in Sofia and Europe to assume their responsibilities towards their nationals and move legally and politically to protect Zayed against any attempt to extradite or prosecute him.

Palestinian inmate suspends strike, another re-sentenced administratively
Picture
Palestinian detainee Ihsan Dababseh, 30, suspended her open-ended hunger-strike, after she received promises from the Israeli prison service (IPS) to meet her demands.

The Palestine Prisoners Center said inmate Dababseh had gone on an open-ended hunger-strike on December 4, 2015 in protest at being transferred, along with other female detainees, to the newly-opened section in the Damon lock-up.

The center spoke out against the dire detention circumstances in Damon jail, which lacks the basic humanitarian needs.

Detainee Dababseh suspended her hunger-strike after two weeks of starvation in jail.

The IPS claimed they would return her to the HaSharon prison in mid-January.

Dababseh, an ex-prisoner, was last detained on December 10, 2014. She has been brought before Israeli courts for at least 10 times.

In a related context, the Israeli occupation authorities sentenced the sick Palestinian detainee Rabii Ata Jibril, 30, to four months in administrative detention, the second such prison-term since he was arrested on August 20.

Prisoner Jibril, held in the Negev lock-up, has been diagnosed with several disorders in his kidney, stomach, and blood circulation.

Medics annulled a surgery he was expected to undergo one week ago due to disorders in his blood flow.
Jibril spent a total of over three years in administrative detention, without charge or trial.

IOF arrests two Gazans near border fence
Picture
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Saturday arrested two Palestinian men after they crossed the border between the besieged Gaza Strip and the 1948 occupied lands.

Local sources said that Israeli soldiers rounded up two unarmed Palestinians after they infiltrated into an Israeli-controlled area near the perimeter fence, southeast of Gaza City.

They added that the men were forced at gunpoint to strip their clothes and then herded together in handcuffs to an unknown destination.

The tight blockade on Gaza has created a considerable unemployment problem in Gaza, prompting some young men to risk death or detention as they attempt to enter Israeli occupied territories in order to seek job opportunities.

IOF soldiers arrest university student
Picture
Israeli occupation forces (IOF) detained a Palestinian university student from Nablus while on her way to attend classes at Birzeit University on Saturday morning.

Local sources said that IOF soldiers manning the Za’tara checkpoint, south of Nablus, forced the 21-year-old Asma al-Qadah out of a taxi she was riding en route to university and arrested her.

The sources noted that the soldiers beat up the taxi driver for refusing to let the girl out of his car.

Qadah is a member of the Birzeit students council and an activist of the Islamic bloc in the university. Her father Abdulhakim al-Qadah is held in Israeli jails since late last month.

Meanwhile, the detainees and ex-detainees government committee said in a statement on Saturday that the number of Palestinian female prisoners in Israeli jails had reached 51.

Hanan al-Khatib, the committee’s lawyer, said that three of those detained were wounded with bullets during their arrest and two others were held in solitary confinement.

Stabbing Attack Reported near Tel Aviv, One Palestinan Detained
Picture
A Palestinian from the occupied West Bank reportedly injured three Israelis in a stabbing attack which occurred in the town of Raanana north of Tel Aviv, Israeli police said.Israeli police spokesperson Luba al-Samri stated that a 20-year-old Palestinian from the village of Tammum was arrested after stabbing and moderately injuring one, and leaving two other victims lightly injured.

Two victims were taken to a nearby hospital, while the third was reportedly treated on scene.

The suspect initially fled after the attack, but was located by Israeli police with the assistance of witnesses on site, al-Samri said.

Israeli media reported that the attacker was shot on scene, however Israeli police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld was unable to confirm to Ma’an if the suspect was injured.

Checkpoints were reportedly erected on main roads leading in and out of Raanana following the attack. Tammum -- the suspect’s hometown -- is located northeast of Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank.

Attacks carried out by Palestinian individuals on Israeli military and civilians began at the start of October and have continued through into December.

Nineteen Israelis have been killed in attacks and around 200 injured, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

At least 125 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers during the same time period, and well over 11,000 injured.

The circumstances of several deaths continue to be disputed as investigations by rights groups have revealed excessive use of force and extrajudicial killing by Israeli forces against Palestinians who had not posed a threat at the time they were killed.

Evidence has been revealed which indicates that many of the reports on knife attacks are not in fact genuine.

Raids, arrests reported in Jenin
Picture
The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) launched at dawn Saturday a large scale raid and search campaign in Jenin, north of the West Bank. At least one youth was detained during the raid.

The PIC reporter quoted eyewitnesses as saying that a number of Israeli military vehicles broke into the city amid heavy fire of tear gas bombs and arrested a 22-year-old youth.

Young men stoned the Israeli troops during their raids on different neighborhoods and streets, the sources added.

Similar raids were also carried out in Zabouba and Romana towns, south of the city, while no arrests were reported.

The IOF soldiers also broke into Yabad town, south of Jenin, on Friday night and turned a local home belonging to Abu Shamala family into a military barrack.

Abu Shamala family members were severely beaten and attacked during the raid.

Israeli soldiers also fired live ammunition inside the house, causing a state of panic among the family members including children who suffered different bruises during the violent attack.

The family members were forced to stay outside for long hours despite the very cold weather.

Abu Shamala’s house was also stormed on Friday and turned into a military observation post.

90 Birzeit university students in Israeli jails
Picture
Birzeit university in Ramallah has said that over 90 of its students, teachers and employees are still detained by Israeli military and security apparatuses.

In a press release on Friday, the university strongly denounced the fierce arrest campaign which the Israeli occupation forces had launched lately against its students and cadres.

The university affirmed that it would address different academic institutions around the world as well as human rights and legal groups to expose Israel's violations against the Palestinian education sector.

Al-Aqsa preacher condemns Israeli deportation policy
Picture
Preacher of al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Ikrema Sabri denounced during Friday sermon Israel’s deportation policy against Jerusalemites.

"Israel is the only state in the world that prevents people’s access to their worship places," Sheikh Sabri said.

“We strongly condemn Israel’s deportation policy that is carried out increasingly against Jerusalemite female worshipers.”

Israel’s deportation policy is an unfair policy that prevents people’s right of worship and restricts their freedom of movement and expression, he continued.

He pointed out that al-Aqsa Mosque is in a real danger as it is still targeted by Israeli Judaization schemes.

According to him, the ongoing tension would only stop when Israeli settlers’ break-ins into the holy shrine were stopped.

"Al-Aqsa will be in danger as long as al-Magaribeh Gate is controlled by Israeli authorities," Sheikh Sabri stressed.

Sheikh Sabri was summoned two days ago for investigation by Israeli authorities for allegedly inciting violence.
