IPS deprives detained child of family visits
Picture
Israeli Prison Service (IPS) has been preventing the family of the 14-year-old girl Malak al-Khatib from visiting their daughter for thirty four days.

Ahrar Center for Prisoners Studies and Human Rights quoted the family as saying the IPS has been so far refusing to issue the family a visit permit.

The family noted that they get information about their daughter only via the lawyer. She is expected to be released on February 15, 2015, the family said.

The Israeli occupation forces arrested the Palestinian girl Malak al-Khatib from Ramallah on December 31, 2014 and held her in Hasharon prison.

The Israeli occupation detains 300 Palestinian minors under harsh conditions and in conditions incompatible with their age, which constitute a big danger to their future lives.

Hamdounah demands release of fishermen, return of boats
Picture
Israeli navy arrested last month three Palestinian fishermen and confiscated 70 fishing boats (6-7 meter long) along with their equipment off Gaza coast. The Palestinian Center for Studies demanded immediate release of the fishermen and return of the boats.

Rafat Hamdonah, director of the Center, called on the international human rights organizations to intervene to pressure the Israeli occupation to release the three fishermen and to return the seventy fishing boats along with their equipment.

In the same context, the Israeli navy had confiscated five months ago a tugboat belonging to a Palestinian from Gaza. The value of the tugboat was estimated at 150,000 USD.

In addition, soldiers invaded the Qalandia refugee camp, north of occupied East Jerusalem, and kidnapped five Palestinians identified as Mohammad Ali Mteir, ‘Aseed az-Zeer, Jalal Abu Esba’, Morad Hammad and Ibrahim Manasra.

Three more Palestinians have been kidnapped from Hebron city, in the southern part of the West Bank, after the soldiers invaded different neighborhoods, and stormed homes.

Local sources said the soldiers invaded various neighborhoods in the city, stormed and ransacked homes, and kidnapped three Palestinians from the Old City, identified as Wahid Fayez Rajabi, 18, ‘Arafat Tal’at al-Batsh, 19, and Ghassan Mohammad Abu Saleh, 18.

Soldiers also broke into the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Finance, in Hebron city, and searched them, causing excessive property damage.

Furthermore, army installed roadblocks on the main entrances of Sa’ir and Halhoul towns and on the northern entrance of Hebron city, stopped and searched hundreds of cars, and integrated dozens of residents while inspecting their ID cards.

Medical sources said several Palestinians suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation after the soldiers invaded the Johar Mountain area, and the Rajabi neighborhood, in Hebron city.

The invasion led to clashes between the invading soldiers and local youths, who hurled stones and empty bottles on their vehicles, while the army fired gas bombs, rubber-coated metal bullets and concussion grenades.

The wounded received treatment by local medics, and did not require hospitalization.

Also in Hebron, soldiers plowed Palestinian agricultural lands, in a number of communities, southeast of Yatta town, near Hebron,

Rateb Jabour, coordinator of the Popular Committee against the Wall and Settlements in southern Hebron, said a large military force, employees of the Civil Administration Office and the Environment Protection Agency, invaded the areas accompanied by military bulldozers, plowed and destroyed nearby 800 Dunams (197.68 Acres) of farmlands.

In Nablus, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank, a number of Palestinian youths managed to close the main entrance of an illegal Israeli colony, east of Qasra village, south of the city.

Clashes took place between the soldiers and school students in the village, after the soldiers demolished some structures.

In the Gaza Strip, soldiers kidnapped four Palestinians allegedly after they breached the security fence, east of the coastal region.

Israeli sources said the four Palestinians have been taken prisoner near Kibbutz Be’eri, in the northwestern Negev Desert, close to the Gaza border. The army claimed the four carried guns and other combat equipment.

On Sunday evening, an Israeli settler rammed his car into cattle of sheep in the al-Karma village, south of Hebron, killing twelve. The sheep belong to Mohammad Abu Sheikha.

Furthermore, a woman identified as Hala Rajabi, said a number of soldiers chased her, on Sunday evening, in Hebron, causing her to fall and suffer various cuts and bruises; she was moved to the Hebron Governmental Hospital for treatment.

PPS: “Soldiers Kidnapped 120 Palestinians In Hebron, In January”
Picture
The Hebron Office of the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) has reported that Israeli soldiers kidnapped 120 Palestinians, including 2 young women and 25 children, in Hebron, in the southern part of the occupied West Bank, in January.

The PPS said the two kidnapped women have been identified as Fida Da’mas, 22, and Lobna al-Khatib, 27 years of age.

It added that most of the abductions were carried out by the military during late night hours, and that the soldiers deliberately caused property damage while breaking into the homes, and while violently searching them.

The soldiers also assaulted families, and frequently threatened them with physical harm during the invasions of their homes.

One of the detainees, Wadee’ Salama al-Jondy, 16 years of age, said he was kidnapped during evening hours near the al-‘Arroub refugee camp, after the soldiers attacked him causing various fractures and bruises.

The soldiers also attacked his brother, and forced him onto the ground, causing him to bleed from his head, in addition to several cuts and bruises to different parts of his body.

The PPS said, among the kidnapped 120 Palestinians, were 25 children who were mostly moved to the Etzion military base for interrogation, and faced very difficult conditions, in addition to constant harassment and abuse.

Sixteen of the kidnapped Palestinians are sick, require medical attention and follow-up, while 37 of the abducted have been forced under arbitrary administrative detention, without charges or trial.

Eighteen of the kidnapped Palestinians were moved to central interrogation centers, (Asqalan, Petah Tikva, al-Jalama and al-Maskobiyya), and most of them were beaten, assaulted, and tortured during interrogation.

The Ofer Israeli Military Court also imposed fines on some of the kidnapped Palestinians, totaling to more than 30.000 New Israeli Shekels.

Israel forces wound 2 Palestinians
Picture
Israeli forces have reportedly shot and injured two young Palestinians during a raid on a refugee camp north of East Jerusalm al-Quds.

According to reports on Monday, the Israeli forces stormed the Qalandia refugee camp, injured the two Palestinians and detained five others.

The two Palestinians suffered injuries by Israeli gunfire during clashes which erupted between Palestinian youth and the Israeli forces in the refugee.

Reports also say the Israel forces, who stormed the camp for arrests, used live ammunition, rubber bullets and stun grenades against the Palestinians.

The Palestinians responded to the assault by throwing stones at the Israeli soldiers.

Over recent months, Israeli forces have frequently raided Palestinians’ homes in the West Bank, arresting dozens of Palestinian people, who are then transferred to Israeli detention centers where they are kept without any charges.

The Palestinian Prisoners Society said in a statement on Sunday Israeli forces arrested 350 Palestinians during raids on scores of houses across the occupied West Bank throughout January.

According to the Palestinian nongovernmental organization, Israel detained 383 Palestinians across the West Bank in December 2014.

There have been many reports about the deteriorating health of Palestinian prisoners held inside Israeli jails.

There are reportedly over 7,000 Palestinians in 17 Israeli prisons and detention camps, including 540 Palestinians held without any trial under administrative detention.

Administrative detention is a sort of imprisonment without trial or charge that allows Israel to incarcerate Palestinians for up to six months. The detention order can be renewed for indefinite periods of time.

Raids and arrests reported in Jenin, al-Khalil
Picture
The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have carried out at dawn Monday a large-scale raid campaign throughout Jenin, while clashes were reported in al-Khalil.

Local sources told the PIC reporter that IOF soldiers broke into Burqin, Hashemia, and Qabatiya towns in Jenin. At least one citizen was nabbed during the raid, while others were brutally assaulted.

Israeli forces stormed Burqin town in nine military vehicles and arrested a 21-year-old young man after raiding and searching his home, the sources added. Several other homes were also raided in the town.

A similar raid campaign was reported in the nearby town of Hashemia, where Israeli soldiers were intensively deployed throughout its neighborhood.

Palestinian vehicles were stopped and searched at a make-shift checkpoint erected in Qabatiya town, local sources said.

Meanwhile, a number of citizens were injured during clashes that erupted in al-Khalil since the early morning hours.
The clashes broke out when Israeli forces heavily fired tear gas bombs and rubber bullets at local homes. Several people were wounded.

Along the same line, three citizens were nabbed in the city after IOF soldiers raided and searched local homes and governmental offices in the Old City.

HR center: Israel tightening the noose on Gaza
Picture
A Palestinian human rights center condemned on Sunday Israel’s tightening of the noose on Gaza Strip since 2006, citing arresting people travelling via Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing as the latest development in such a policy.

Insan Human Rights Center said in a statement that the Israeli repressive policy against Gaza Strip restricts people’s movement via Beit Hanoun border crossing.

The statement pointed out that a Palestinian merchant was recently arrested on the border crossing while on his way to receive goods despite obtaining a permit from Israeli economy ministry.

The Palestinian businessman, Abdulhakim Shubair, is expected to be brought before court Tuesday on the charge of importing banned electric wires.

The center called on human rights institutions to intervene urgently, to stop Israeli violations of the international laws and conventions, and to facilitate people’s movement via Beit Hanoun crossing.

The human rights center also called for an end to the deliberate targeting of Palestinian economy by restricting Palestinian traders’ movement, and to protect the people living in the besieged strip of Gaza.

Nine Palestinians Placed under Israeli Administrative Detention
Picture
Israel's Ofer military court, on Sunday, issued administrative detention orders for nine additional prisoners, the Palestinian Prisoners Society stated.

WAFA reports that PPS Lawyer Mahmoud Halabi said the court sentenced Yasin Abu Lafah, Kayed Abu Rish, and Mohammed Obaid to six months under administrative detention (without charge or trial).

Meanwhile, the remaining six received administrative detention orders for three to four months. They were identified as Mohammed Asi, Suhaib Mre’e, Mahmoud Ayyash, Omar Talahmeh, Osama Shalabi and Tha’er Abu Aliya.

Some of the nine prisoners have had their orders renewed multiple times.

According to the Palestine Red Crescent Society, “Approximately 360 Palestinians are currently placed under administrative detention, distributed in various Israeli detention centers.”

“Administrative detention, usually described as preventative detention or internment, entails the imprisonment of individuals, without charge or trial, initially for a period up to six months but possibly renewable indefinitely.”

Additionally, many prisoners had their administrative detention renewed in the last few hours of duration of the detention. In a few cases, detainees were rearrested immediately after their release, and even before they could reach their homes to meet their families.

It was stressed: “Human rights law, in particular the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 (Articles 10 and 11) and the International Covenant for Political and Civil Rights (Articles 9 and 14) guarantee the right of a detainee to a fair trial and subject his detention on a real legal review and procedures that ensure the prevention of arbitrary detention.”

The Red Crescent affirmed that the archaic Israeli procedure of administrative detention (dating back to the days of British Mandate Palestine) does not abide by the real requirements of rules of justice and due process:

“In brief, the Israeli occupying Power does not use administrative detention inconformity with human rights law and international humanitarian law which regulates and governs the conduct of the occupier in the occupied territory.”

Israel’s continuous use of administrative detention constitutes an illegal measure which requires prompt and effective actions by the international community, including international human rights organizations and other concerned entities, to stop it.

Testimonials on abuse of minors reported in Hasharon prison
Picture
The Palestinian Prisoner Society reported on Sunday testimonials of Palestinian minor detainees being abused in Israeli Hasharon prison.

The lawyer of the Society, Fawwaz al-Shaludi, said the 14-year-old prisoner Malak al-Khatib from Ramallah has been subjected to abuse and suffering just like the adults despite that she is the youngest female prisoner in Israeli jails. She is sentenced to two months in addition to a fine estimated at 1500 USD.

The lawyer quoted the girl as saying the Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) banned her parents from attending the investigation which runs contrary to the international law. The IOA also did not allow her parents to visit or even talk to her, he said, adding that the IOA refused to allow her parents to give her clothes or school books.

The lawyer added that she was transferred to Ofer military court by “Bosta”, or prison vehicle, which took twenty hours to reach the court rather than one hour in normal vehicles.

The “Bosta” is a special prison vehicle with its inside made of iron usually used to transfer prisoners to hospitals and courts. It is uncomfortable at all and moves very slowly and prisoners usually got abused and tortured while cuffed inside.

On the other hand, the lawyer visited the section allocated for males in Hasharon prison and listened to two boys. They are Jihad Sofi from Gaza and sentenced to two years and Malik Aburrazaq Hamdan from Jerusalem. Both are 17-year-old.

The boys said the Nahshon Special Forces assaulted them by cursing and brutal beating especially on the face. Hamdan said he was taken to Ramleh Prison Clinic but he did not receive any treatment.

214 Palestinian minors are held in Israeli jails including four females in Hasharon prison.

Six Palestinians Kidnapped In The West Bank
Picture
Israeli soldiers invaded, on Sunday at dawn, a number of Palestinian communities in different parts of the occupied West Bank, broke into and searched dozens of homes, and kidnapped at least six Palestinians.

Eyewitnesses said several military vehicles invaded Hebron, in the southern part of the occupied West Bank, and kidnapped two Palestinians, identified as Nour Mousa Abu Sneina, 20, and Mahmoud Sbeih Abu Turky, 22.

The soldiers also kidnapped Yasser Mohammad Salah Tamimi, 23 years of age, near the main entrance of the al-‘Arroub refugee camp, north of Hebron city. Tamimi is from Hebron city.

In addition, a Palestinian identified as ‘Anan Mohammad Suleiman Abu Saleh, 19 years of age, from Doura town, was kidnapped near the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron. The soldiers alleged he “carried a knife.”

Furthermore, soldiers invaded Burin town, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus, and kidnapped Abdul-Rahman Daoud Najjar, 17, after breaking into his family home and searching it.

The invasion into Burin started after the soldiers shot and killed, on Saturday evening, Ahmad Ibrahim Najjar, 19 years of age,” after the army alleged that he, and other Palestinian youths, threw stones and Molotov cocktails on Israeli military vehicles, and settler's cars.

Palestinian youth kidnapped by Israeli police in Jerusalem
Picture
A Palestinian boy was kidnapped by the Israeli occupation police afternoon Saturday allegedly after he had set off firecrackers at the officers.

A masked 17-year-old Palestinian was found with an arsenal of fireworks Saturday night in eastern Jerusalem and was arrested for unleashing a round of the explosives at Israeli officers patrolling the area, spokesperson for the Israeli police, Luba Simari, claimed.

“We’ve placed the suspect under arrest pending investigations,” she further said.

Tension has been running high in Occupied Jerusalem due to the simmering clashes that have flared up across the city in protest at Israel’s frequent assaults on Palestinian civilians and on Muslims’ holy al-Aqsa Mosque.

Meanwhile, a wave of violent confrontations broke out overnight Saturday after the IOF patrols stormed Zabouba town, in the West Bank city of Jenin, via a drove of army jeeps.

The invading IOF troops broke into the family house of the Palestinian citizen Walid Mounir Jaradat and scoured it moments before they rounded him up and dragged him to the nearby Salem military camp.

The assault culminated in heavy barrages of rubber bullets and tear gas grenades discharged by the IOF all along the round of clashes that burst out in the area.

A number of peaceful Palestinian protesters reportedly choked on tear gas in the process.

Palestinian Teen Killed By Israeli Army Fire Near Nablus
Picture
Ahmad Ibrahim Najjar, 19

Palestinian medical sources have reported that a teenage resident of Burin village, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus, was shot and killed, on Saturday evening, by Israeli army fire, while another Palestinian was injured, and kidnapped.

The sources said the soldiers killed Ahmad Ibrahim Najjar, 19 years of age, near a bypass road used by Israeli soldiers and settlers, between the villages of Burin and Madama.

The Israeli army claimed Najjar and other Palestinians hurled stones and Molotov cocktails at Israeli military vehicles, and settlers’ cars.

The soldiers took the body of the slain Palestinian, held it for a few hours, and handed it later on to the Palestinian District Coordination Office (DCO).

The Palestinian News & Info Agency (WAFA) said Najjar was shot by two live rounds to the neck and lower jaw.
In addition, soldiers kidnapped another young Palestinian, who was also shot and mildly injured by army fire, and took him to an unknown destination.

After the shooting, the soldiers closed the area and prevented Palestinian ambulances from reaching the slain Palestinian, who bled to death, and the wounded resident.

The incident took place near the Gilad Israeli colony, built on Palestinian lands near Burin village.

Head of the Israeli Settlements File at the Palestinian Authority in the northern part of the occupied West Bank, Ghassan Daghlas, said dozens of soldiers have been deployed around the village.

He added that sporadic gunfire was heard in the area, especially after the soldiers attacked dozens of Palestinians, who protested the killing of Najjar.

Head of the Palestinian National Initiative, Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, denied the Israeli allegation, and said the soldiers ambushed and attacked nonviolent Palestinian protesters, marching against Israel’s illegal colonies, and its escalating violations, in occupied Palestine.

Dr. Barghouthi added that the soldiers deliberately fired rounds of live ammunition, in addition to dozens of gas bombs, concussion grenades and rubber-coated metal bullets, killing Najjar, and wounding Mohammad Ra’ed ‘As’ous, while scores of residents suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation.

The Palestinian official also said the “ongoing Israeli crimes, and violations, will never be able to stop the popular struggle in Palestine, but will only lead to more steadfastness and resistance.
