Israeli military court of Ofer refused to release the Palestinian captive Nael Barghouthi pending the issuance of the appeals committee’s decision.
The Palestinian Prisoners Society revealed on Wednesday that the court’s judge issued the order based on fears of the escape of detainee Barghouthi who is likely to be sentenced with the same previous verdict for a life sentence and 18 additional years.
The Palestinian prisoner Nael Barghouthi was released among other detainees in Wafaa al-Ahrar swap deal. He was rearrested in July, 2014 and sentenced to 30 months which he had finished on December 17, 2016. However, Israeli authorities kept him jailed pending the response of the military objection committee to the attorney general’s appeal calling for applying the same old sentence against him.
Detainee Barghouthi, 59, from Koper town in Ramallah, served the longest imprisonment period in Israeli jails which was estimated at 36 years with 34 years being spent continuously.

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) has reported that Israeli soldiers abducted, on Thursday at dawn, six Palestinians, including two former political prisoners, in different parts of the occupied West Bank. The PPS said the soldiers have abducted at least 100 Palestinians in the first five days of this year.
The PPS said many army vehicles invaded Tubas district, before storming and searching many homes, and abducted three Palestinians, including two former political prisoners.
It identified the abducted Palestinians as former political prisoner Mos’ab Siyaj and Bilal Sawafta, in addition to Rami Sharayda.
In the Hebron district, in the southern part of the West Bank, the soldiers also invaded and searched homes, and abducted two Palestinians; one of them identified as Nahed Anati, while the second, who remained unidentified until the time of this report, was taken prisoner from his home in Doura city.
The PPS office in Qalqilia, in the northern part of the West Bank, said the soldiers also searched homes and abducted Osama Abdul-Razeq Amer, from Kufur Qaddoum town.
In Bethlehem, the soldiers searched several homes and abducted a young man, identified as Aref Mohammad Saleh, 22.

IOF arrests 5 Palestinians in pre-dawn raids
The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) arrested at dawn Thursday five Palestinians during a violent raid and search campaign throughout West Bank.
IOF claimed in a statement issued early today that five “wanted” Palestinians were detained for being allegedly involved in anti-occupation attacks.
The statement claimed that the detainees include two activists in Hamas Movement, from Jenin, and three others from Tubas.
The PIC reporter affirmed that three youths were kidnapped from their houses in Tubas and the nearby Tamun town.
Violent search campaign was carried out during the raid while a military checkpoint was erected at the entrance to Tamun town, the sources added.
The Israeli sources claimed that large amount of money were found after breaking into different homes in al-Khalil.
Similar raids were also carried out near Bethlehem, while no arrests were reported.
Meanwhile, several Israeli patrols stormed Madama town south of Nablus and erected a number of checkpoints throughout it.
The Israeli army frequently carries out sweeping arrest campaigns in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem that ostensibly target "wanted" Palestinians.
Over 7,000 Palestinian prisoners are currently held in Israeli prisons, according to the Palestinian rights groups.

Clashes broke out in the Shufat refugee camp in occupied East Jerusalem on Wednesday afternoon after Jerusalem municipality crews and inspectors stormed the camp under heavy armed protection.
Thaer al-Fasfous, spokesman for the Fatah movement in the camp, told Ma'an that dozens of armed Israeli police officers escorted Jerusalem municipality crews into the camp who began breaking into shops for “inspection.”
During the raid, local youths clashed with Israeli forces in attempts to prevent the soldiers from advancing through the camp. Israeli forces and municipality crews then withdrew to the military checkpoint at the entrance to Shufat, firing tear gas heavily in the streets.
Al-Fasfous highlighted that before clashes broke out, municipality inspectors delivered fines to a number of stores claiming that they operated "illegally".
He added that Israeli forces detained some 25 young Palestinian men who were holders of West Bank ID cards.
Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told Ma’an he had “no confirmation” of the reports.
A spokesperson from the Jerusalem municipality was not immediately available for comment.
Shufat refugee camp is located in northeastern Jerusalem within Israel's municipal boundaries of the city, but is encircled on three sides by Israel’s separation wall, forcing residents to pass through a congested military checkpoint to access the rest of Jerusalem where most claim residency status.
In September, the camp experienced at least seven consecutive days of violent raids in the weeks following a fatal shooting of a camp resident by Israeli forces while he was driving home. Meanwhile, the camp is routinely the site of violent clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian youth.
Israeli raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
Due to the typically aggressive nature of the raids, clashes often erupt between local Palestinian youth who throw stones and are met in response with live fire, rubber-coated steel bullets, and tear gas, often resulting in serious, sometimes fatal injuries.
Israeli police arrest 20 Palestinians in Shu'fat
More than 20 Palestinians were arrested during an Israeli police raid in Shu'fat refugee camp to the northeast of occupied Jerusalem on Wednesday evening.
Spokesman of Fatah movement in Shu'fat, Thaer al-Fasfoos, said that dozens of Israeli policemen tried to break into the camp, but the Palestinian youths confronted them leading to the outbreak of clashes between the two sides.
Al-Fasfoos told Quds Press news agency that the Israeli policemen fired gas bombs close to the houses causing suffocation cases among the citizens that were treated at the scene.
He added that the Israeli police officers scrutinized the identity cards of the young men and passersby in the camp before they arrested about 20 citizens and took them to a nearby military checkpoint.
Meanwhile, other clashes broke out between Palestinian youths and Israeli occupation police in Hizma town to the northeast of Jerusalem, during which the Israeli forces fired sound bombs and rubber bullets at the youths.

She added that a court hearing would be held for her brother next Thursday on a charge of throwing stones at Israeli soldiers.
Ahmed, the youngest among his family children, suffers from half paralysis and hardly can walk. He also receives daily medication for epilepsy.
About 34 Palestinian citizens, including children, were reportedly kidnapped by the Israeli military and security forces on the same day at dawn in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

The Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) slapped a renewed administrative prison term against the Palestinian detainee Musaab Eshtiyeh, paying no heed to his critical health condition.
Musaab’s father said the IOA renewed the administrative sentence of his 24-year-old son for another four months, without charge or trial and for the second time running.
Held in the Israeli Megiddo jail, Musaab was arrested by the occupation soldiers four months ago, just a few months after he had been released from an Israeli prison, where he had served one year and a half.
During his first arrest, Musaab was diagnosed with Thyroiditis and sudden loss of 20 kilograms of his weight. Hypertension rocked his body shortly after due to medical neglect in Israeli jail.
His family appealed to all concerned medical and legal bodies to urgently step in so as to save their son’s life and pressure the Israeli prison authorities to provide him with medical treatment before it is too late.
