The Israeli authorities today extended the detention of Alaa Abu Jazar, whose 17-year-long sentence was supposed to end today, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS).
It said that the Israeli authorities informed the Abu Jazar family to remove the homecoming tent set up to celebrate his release because Alaa will not be freed today but that he will remain in detention for at least two more days to undergo interrogation.
The decision to extend the detention of Abu Jazar came after the Israeli Prison Services (IPS) raided Remon prison and relocated as a result some of the prisoners who are members of the organizing committee, said the PPS.
Abu Jazar, 43, is from the city of Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip and has been in prison since 2003 for resisting the Israeli occupation.

Ahmad Zahran, 42, from the Ramallah-area village of Deir Abu Mishaal, ended last night his hunger strike after 113 days of fast following an agreement with the Israeli authorities in which he will undergo security interrogation after which his demand for an end to his administrative detention will be determined, according to Jawad Boulus, attorney for the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission.
Zahran, a father of four children, went on hunger strike to demand an end to his long administrative detention without charge or trial and based on secret evidence.
Zahran had earlier observed 39 days of hunger strike which he ended after he was promised to be released from administrative detention. However, he resumed his hunger strike after the Israeli authorities reneged on that promise.
During his second hunger strike, Zahran’s health deteriorated seriously and had to be admitted to hospital. He was reported to be suffering from low heart beats, pain throughout his body, critical drop in saline level and loss of over 35 kilograms of his weight.
He has served a total of 15 years in Israeli prisons for resisting the occupation.

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) has reported that Israeli soldiers abducted, Tuesday, a Palestinian man just minutes after his release from prison, after he was held captive for 18 years.
The PPS said the Palestinian political prisoner, Ismael Affana, from occupied East Jerusalem, was released from the Negev Detention Camp, after spending 18 years in several prisoners, but was abducted a few minutes later.
It added that the Palestinian was transferred to the al-Maskobiyya Detention and Interrogation facility in Jerusalem.
It is worth mentioning that Israel frequently rearrests Palestinian detainees just minutes or a few hours after their release, and usually places them under the arbitrary Administrative Detention orders, without charges or trial.
Some of the detainees are released hours after their abduction, but face severe restrictions; this sometimes includes barring them from returning to their homes and towns, or preventing them from heading to other parts of the West Bank, in addition to being denied the right to travel abroad.

Israeli war minister Naftali Bennett said on Monday that 66,500 shekels (about $19,000) were confiscated from the family of Palestinian prisoner Maher Younis — the second longest-serving detainee in Israeli jails.
In Twitter remarks, Bennett claimed the family received this amount of money from the Palestinian Authority.
He said that this measure was taken in accordance with a previous official decision to seize PA-paid money of prisoners who carried out what he called attacks (resistance operations) and hold an Israeli ID.
A Hebrew website said that it was the first time Israel confiscated money from a Palestinian prisoner’s family in such way.
The family of prisoner Younis lives in Ara village in the Haifa District in northern Israel (the 1948 occupied lands). The prisoner is serving 40 years on a charge of killing an Israeli soldier.

According to Israel’s Channel 7, four prisons will be built to accommodate about 4,000 Palestinians as part of a long-term plan to be finished in 2040.
The project will also include other detention centers, police stations and courts.
The Israeli prison service has 30 prisons and detention centers, the Channel said.
There are about 5,700 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, including 47 women and girls, 250 children, six lawmakers, 500 administrative detainees and 700 patients.
Israel Approves Construction of Four New Prison Complexes
Israeli ‘housing council’ has approved a plan to build four new prisons in the occupied territories as the occupation accelerates its arrest campaign against Palestinians, the Palestine News Network reported.
Israeli media sources announced, on Tuesday, that the council authorized construction of the prison complexes, south of the Israeli city of Haifa, each of which would be comprised of a detention center, a police station and a court.
Israel’s Channel 7 said the new prison complexes would fit 4,000 political, criminal, and minor detainees, and is expected to be completed in 2040.
Palestinians complain that they are subjected to assault and torture at Israeli prisons, and some detainees resort to open-ended hunger strikes to voice their outrage at dire prison conditions.

Israel Prison Services (IPS) today relocated 34 Palestinian minor prisoners held at Ofer military camp and prison, near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, to Damoun prison in Israel without any of their adult overseers, said the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) in a statement.
The statement warned of the danger of such move as it undermines one of the prisoner’s achievements to provide caretaker rights for minors, adding that this could make the minors targets of abusive measures by the IPS.
The decision has prompted strong protests by the prisoners who look after the minors as the relocation may undermine the rights of the minor prisoners who could be abused by the prison guards in the absence of their adult overseers.
Some 200 minors are currently held in Israeli prisons out of nearly 5,000 Palestinian political prisoners incarcerated for resisting the Israeli occupation of their land.
The adult prisoners usually take care of the minors and help them adjust to their new situation as well as represent them in any dispute with the IPS.
