The European Alliance in Defense of Palestinian Detainees (EADPD) sent urgent petitions to international and human rights organizations to intervene to save Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike for 55 days. The alliance in the petitions addressed the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs, Catherine Ashton, and Nabil Elaraby, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, in addition to a number of human and international organizations.
The EADPD appealed for intervention to save the Palestinian hunger strikers’ lives, and guarantee their legitimate, internationally-recognized rights.
According to the letters, "Israel continues to evade the international laws and the Geneva Conventions with regard to the inhabitants of an occupied territory, and arrest hundreds of Palestinian men and women under security pretexts and without charge,”
“There are about 200 administrative captive in Israeli jails languishing for months or even years long and without being tried or charged,” the Alliance pointed out.
“To protest the bad conditions of detention, about 150 prisoners declared a hunger strike and have been living on water and salt since about two months. The health of those has worsened and they are facing death, insisting that their demands are met," it added.
The EADPD called on the international bodies to promptly mediate the release of the hunger-striking detainees, and force the Israeli authorities to quit this ‘manipulative measure’ of detaining Palestinian citizens before it is too late.

The Arab League held the Israeli government fully responsible for the lives of the Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike for 54 days protesting the administrative detention policy. The league in a statement issued Monday condemned the Israeli government’s approval of the force-feeding bill against the prisoners, recommended by the ‘Shin Bet’, Israel's internal security service.
The Israeli parliament (Knesset) in recent times passed the first reading of the force-feeding bill, which allows the Israel Prison Service (IPS) to request permission from the Israel Central Court to force-feed a hunger striking detainee or prisoner if necessary.
The statement stressed full solidarity with the prisoners’ issue, especially the administrative detainees on hunger strike, demanding a serious and strong pressure to be mounted by the international community on ‘Israel’ to quickly release them, reject and condemn this law and the policy of administrative detention.
'Israel’ is keeping 189 prisoners under administrative detention; between 100 to 125 of them staged a hunger strike on April 24, having only water, vitamins, salt and sugar, in protest of their imprisonment.
Roughly 70 detainees, almost with chronic diseases or elderly, have been hospitalized after their health deteriorated because of the hunger strike.

The Israeli Knesset Interior Committee is to start Monday a series of deliberations to pass the bill of force-feeding the Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike. The bill passed its first reading in the Knesset with 29 votes on favor while 18 contradicts.
The health of the hunger-striking detainees has been deteriorating as dozens of them were transferred to hospitals. The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave order last week to the Israeli Knesset to speed up the procedures of issuing the law.
The hunger strike commenced on 24 April 2014 when approximately 120 detainees began refusing food in protest of their continued administrative detention, which is detention without charge or trial.
The Arab member in the Knesset Basil Ghattas said in a statement that Netanyahu and the Israeli government would use all the available methods to pass the bill and break the strike.
In the next two days, The committee will hold four deliberations in order to speed up the procedures of passing the bill, Ghattas added.
Ghattas considered passing the bill will be an international scandal for Israel on all levels.
In this respect, the medical Association of Israel and several human right institutions expressed their dismay of the bill, considering it as a kind of torture that violates the ethics of the medical profession in Israel.

Palestinian families deplored the Red Cross for voicing its concern over the safety of missing Jewish settlers and ignoring the suffering of thousands of Palestinians detained in Israeli jails.
They also said that the Red Cross never condemned, even for once, any daily violations and attacks that occur to the Palestinians in the West Bank at the hands of Jewish settlers. "What sense does it make for the Red Cross to be silent on 54 days of our prisoners' hunger strike and talk about the suffering of illegal settlers missing for four days?" the wife of jailed hunger striking lawmaker Abdul-Jabbar Fuqaha questioned.
"The Red Cross was supposed to condemn depriving me of visiting my husband for 12 years instead of decrying the loss of settlers," the wife of life prisoner Abbas Al-Sayed said.
For its part, Ahrar center for human rights criticized the Red Cross for hastening to issue a condemnation statement against the alleged kidnapping of three Jewish settlers with no mention of the suffering of about five thousand Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, over 120 of them have been on hunger strike for 54 consecutive days.
The center stressed the need for a clear Palestinian position denouncing the Red Cross for its stated bias in favor of the Israelis and its disregard for the feeling of the Palestinians, who are exposed to daily violations by Jewish settlers.

This is an unspeakable Israeli war crime, already pigeonholed by the Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions as such.
UFree Network has initiated a series of solidarity and human rights activities calling on international community and European Union to pressure Israel to stop such arbitrary and random arrests and immediately release administrative hunger strikers, who have been starving for 54 days in a row.

A Hamas official on Monday warned of "consequences" if Israel expelled West Bank-based leaders of the Islamist movement to the Gaza Strip, as Israeli forces continued an extensive search for three missing youths.
"The scenario of expulsion has always failed in breaking the will and determination of Palestinians," Mushir al-Musri, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, told Ma'an.
"Detaining Aziz Dweik, the speaker of the Palestinian parliament, along with other parliamentarians, is stupid and will increase the weight of the coming consequences," al-Musri said.
He called on the Palestinian leadership to work to continue to advance West Bank-Gaza reconciliation even in the face of Israeli aggression.
Reconciliation "is the best answer to the Israeli mentality," al-Musri said.

Israel is to take some "punitive steps" against Palestinians in response to the missing of three settlers, Israeli Channel 2 reporter revealed Sunday. "We are examining the possibility to expel several senior Hamas members, including those in administrative detention and hunger striking," Israeli government official said.
The political affairs analyst at the channel Audi Siegel said that these procedures included deportation of Hamas activists.
The Israeli government is considering several steps to do after approving them by the judicial system in Israel. The steps include the deportation of Hamas activists in addition to other punishments, he added.
These measures came to increase pressure on the Palestinian organizations, the leadership of Hamas and the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Israeli politicians believe that media pressure on Abbas will push him to move, Siegel pointed out.
The reporter noted that Netanyahu will hold another session of Cabinet on Monday to follow the hard situation of crisis.
An Israeli security source said Hamas would be keen not to issue a statement about its situation toward the missing settlers at the moment. Israel's security want to deliver a message to Hamas that the detention of the abducted is a burden rather than an achievement.
Three Israeli settlers were missing three days ago in Hebron; Israeli occupation claimed they were kidnapped. However, no Palestinian faction claimed its responsibility.

Eighteen Palestinian citizens, including a 14-year-old minor, were rounded up by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) Sunday night following overnight invasions into al-Khalil. Adnan Ismail Arzikat, Abdul Rahman Issa, Ezzedine Abu Snina, Jamil Abu Eisha, Maher Moussa al-Shyoukhi, and Muhammad Maher Badr, among many other Palestinian civilians, were all targeted by the operation.
The IOF turned Palestinians’ homes into military barracks following abrupt break-ins into Tafouh town, west of al-Khalil, and Knar neighborhood, east of Dura town.
A Palestinian young man was left wounded while another was abducted as the IOF cordoned off homes in al-Khalil.
A state of anxiety has overwhelmed the natives, including women and children, as the heavily-armed Israeli patrols blew up the entry gate of a Palestinian home in Deir Baha and ordered a native family to surrender over the loudspeakers, local sources reported.
Akram Qawasmi sustained shrapnel injuries as a spate of heavy and random gunshots was discharged by the Israeli soldiers. Akram, along with Nour Abdul Fatah al-Qawasmi, 21, were both taken into custody, the same sources added.
An unprecedented upsurge in overnight Israeli break-ins has been documented in al-Khalil, where the Israeli soldiers raked through Palestinian homes, blocked the main streets with sand barriers, and shut all of the entry gates into the city with cement cubes.
Unjustified acts of violence have also been going on round-the-clock in al-Khalil.
The IOF forays culminated in the heavy beating of Palestinian 14-year-old child Madeleine Imad Abu Shamsiya as a horde of fanatic Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian native families in al-Khalil.
Both Madeleine and her father were abducted by the Israeli soldiers and dragged to an interrogation center in the Kiryat Arba settlement.
According to Muhammad Awad, coordinator of the popular committee in Beit Ummar village to the north of al-Khalil, 6 armed settlers assailed Palestinian farmers, including women, in Wadi Safa near the Etzion settlement, to the north, on Sunday evening.

The Palestinian administrative detainees in Israeli jails have been without food for 54 uninterrupted days in protest at the Israeli arbitrary detention policies, issued with neither charge nor hearings. Head of the Palestinian Prisoner Society, ex-detainee Fares Qaddura, warned of projected Israeli retaliatory measures that are likely to be issued in light of the recent developments and abductions going on in the West Bank.
Qaddura called on all activists and human rights groups to rally round the prisoners and back them up throughout their fight for freedom.
The latter has raised alarm bells over the very critical health status of scores of Palestinian hunger strikers, and championed caution in dealing with the recent developments (the reported capture of three Israeli settlers).
Dozens of Palestinian hunger strikers have been rushed to Israeli hospitals after having been starving for 54 days in a row and vowed to keep going until all of their fair demands are met.
