The Prisoners and Freedoms’ committee in the 1948 Occupied territories on Monday urged Palestinians to partake in the congregational Friday prayers to be performed in front of the Assaf Harofe hospital, where hunger-striking Adnan Khader is cuffed hand and foot.
Head of the Freedoms committee in the 1948 Occupied Palestine, Sheikh Raed Salah, said in a press statement: “Everybody should take part in the Friday prayers set to be performed in congregation in solidarity with Sheikh Khader Adnan who has been without food for 42 days running.”
Prisoner Adnan, a father of six children, was detained by the Israeli occupation forces on July 8, 2014 and sentenced to administrative detention for the 10th time in his life.
Palestinians held in administrative detention can be incarcerated without charge or trial for months or years, and are denied access to the evidence that led to their detention.
Adnan: 'The more they torture me, the more determined I become'
Palestinian prisoner Khader Adnan, who is now on his 42nd day on hunger strike against the Israeli practice of administrative detention, said Tuesday that "the more [the Israelis] torture me, the stronger and more determined I become."
Adnan, 37, made the comments to the chief lawyer of the Palestinian prisoner’s society Jawad Bulous, who was visiting him at Israel’s Assaf Harofeh medical center.
According to Ma'an, Bulous said that "new dangerous symptoms" had appeared indicating that Adnan's health has seriously deteriorated. "He suffers severe pains all over his body with blue spots on his shoulder and clear speaking problems."
Bulous said that despite Adnan’s sufferings, there has so far been no discussion about his case, although he said officers from the Israeli prison service visited Adnan on Monday to see how dangerous his condition was. "Despite his complaints about detention conditions in hospital, wardens made these conditions worse by fixing a curtain at the outer door of his room and three wardens were sent to his room while his hand and his leg were tied to his bed," said Bulous.
Adnan also told the lawyer that a delegation representing the International Committee of the Red Cross had attempted to visit him several days ago, but that they cancelled the visit after Israeli officers insisted on attending and keeping Adnan tied to the bed.
On Friday, the director of the prisoner's society, Rafat Hamduna, said that Adnan's weight was dropping to dangerous levels and he was no longer able to stand up or move.
Adnan, a father of six children, was detained on July 8, 2014 and sentenced to administrative detention for the 10th time in his life.
Palestinians held in administrative detention can be held without charge or trial for months or years, and are denied access to the evidence that led to their detention.
In an open letter released last month, Adnan wrote that the goal of his strike is to resist Israel and prevent it from tarnishing the achievement of prisoners who secured their freedom by going on hunger strikes in the past, only to be rearrested by military forces.
In 2012, Adnan took part in a 66-day hunger strike against his detention without trial or charge. The agreement that released him on April 18 of that year also ended a hunger strike of 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, who had called for an end to administrative detention.
Despite Israel's agreement to the demand at the time, around 500 Palestinians are currently being held under administrative detention, out of a total of nearly 6,000 Palestinians being held in Israeli prisons.

Residents Bashar Mahmoud, Nassim Mheisin and Mohammad Mousa Mustafa, were all taken prisoner from their homes, in the al-‘Eesawiyya town, after the soldiers stormed their homes, and violently searched them.
Soldiers also kidnapped a former political prisoner, identified as Suheib al-A’war, 18, from Ein al-Louza neighborhood, in Silwan town in Jerusalem, after violently attacking and beating him.
The kidnapped Palestinian is a former political prisoner who spent 21 months in Israeli prison, and was released earlier this year.
On Sunday at night, soldiers kidnapped Tareq Ziad Abu Tabeekh, 19 years of age, for “entering Israel without a permit.” The kidnapped is from the Jenin refugee camp, in the northern West Bank district of Jenin.

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) at predawn time Monday knocked down a Palestinian home in Kafr Kanna town, in the 1948 Occupied territories.
Local media sources said the demolition was carried out at predawn hours. Clashes broke out as the house owners voiced their protest at Israel’s arbitrary demolition of their home for the second time.
The IOF knocked down the targeted building under the pretext of unlicensed construction, an excuse from which illegal Israeli settlers have always been exempted.
The Israeli cops nabbed four Palestinian citizens in the clashes that burst out shortly afterwards.
The IOF also attacked the locals with randomly-shot barrages of stun grenades and rubber bullets in an attempt to disband them.

The Palestinian Detainees’ Committee strongly denounced, Sunday, the Israeli approval of a bill that would allow force-feeding Palestinian detainees, holding hunger strikes, and described it as a serious violation against the detainees, and their basic rights.
Israeli Internal Security Minister Gilad Erdan, presented the bill Sunday, and said the striking detainees “pose a threat to Israel.”
Erdan stated that hunger-striking detainees, which he labeled as “terrorists,” became “a means to threaten Israel, alongside boycotting Israel and its products.”
He added that movements leading the call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions, “aim at delegitimizing Israel,” and considered BDS alongside hunger strikes, to be “a real threat to Israel.”
Before it becomes a law, the approved bill needs to be sent to the Israeli Knesset for first and second readings.
It is worth mentioning that the bill was first presented to the Israeli government last year, and managed to pass, but the Israeli Knesset was dissolved before it even started deliberations to turn it into law.
It was sent to the government after its initial approval in June 2014, when hundreds of Palestinian political prisoners held an extended hunger strike, demanding basic rights, guaranteed by International Law.
The strike caused at least eighty Palestinian detainees to fall seriously ill, and were moved to Israeli hospitals.
The Palestinian Detainees Committee expressed its deep concerns over the outcomes of this illegal bill, and said “the law brings to mind the cases of detainees Ali al-Ja’bary, Ishaq Maragha and Rasem Halawa, who were killed in the early 1980’s, after the Israeli authorities force-fed them in an attempt to end their hunger strike.”
“The time has come to put an end to the Israeli insanity, cruelty and immorality,” the committee said in a press release, “We have seen a series of laws and drafts that are practically call for killing the detainees, in addition to laws meant to continuously abuse their rights even after their release.”
It called on local, regional and international human rights groups, and the international community, to end their deadly silence, and to act on prosecuting Israeli officials, such as Avigdor Lieberman, Gilad Erdan and many others “for their calls to murder the detainees.”
The Israeli Association for Civil Rights said force-feeding the detainees is forbidden, and that when the detainees conduct hunger strikes, they are practicing a legitimate right to object to injustice.
It added that most detainees who conduct hunger strikes in Israeli prisons and detention centers are largely imprisoned under Administrative Detention orders, held usually for renewable six-month periods, without facing any charges.
The Palestinian Authority also called for ending the escalating Israeli violations against the Palestinian detainees, and said they have the right to express their rejection to the outrageous abuse, and injustice, they constantly face.
