The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) afternoon Monday raised concerns about the critical health condition of the Palestinian hunger-striking detainee Khader Adnan, who has been on hunger strike for almost 50 days.
"We are concerned that his life is at immediate risk," said Jacques de Maio, the head of the ICRC's delegation in Israel and the occupied territories. "Any solution must, however, take into account the necessity of protecting the detainee's moral and physical integrity.”
“It should also be kept in mind that under resolutions adopted by the World Medical Association, a detainee is entitled to choose whether to be fed or receive medical treatment,” he said. “So, it is essential that a detainee's choice be respected and his or her dignity is preserved."
De Maio also said that the detainee’s family is very anxious about his health, urging the Israeli occupation authorities to allow them to visit him. It is more than two months since Adnan was granted a family visit.
“Under the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, detainees have a right to be visited by their families,” De Maio further stated. “Given the circumstances, permitting his relatives to visit Adnan, without delay, is the right thing to do."
International delegates and medical staff who have visited prisoner Adnan, to monitor both his health and his treatment, warned of pre-planned medical negligence and exaggerated reluctance by the Israeli prison authorities as regards his exacerbated health status.

daughters approach her, or talk to her, but after a few minutes of talking with the daughters and their mother’s lawyer, the soldiers allowed them to approach her.
Yaffa and Suha were telling their mother how proud they are of her, her steadfastness and strong determination, despite her imprisonment and suffering.
The court session only lasted a few minutes; the defense told the court that the whole case against Jarrar is purely political.
“The charges are ridiculous, for political activities in the open, activities that did not violate any law,” the lawyer told Al-Jazeera correspondent Elias Karram, “The arrest of Jarrar is illegal, and is not based on any legal foundations.”
Following a few minutes of deliberation, the court decided to delay the hearing until further notice, as the defense attorney demanded the Israeli prosecution to present its case and the alleged “proofs,” and said it cannot perform its duties and defend the imprisoned legislator if the prosecution does even present a clear case, instead of allegations, against the defendant.
The army kidnapped the 52-year-old legislator, senior political leader of the leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), and a democratically elected legislator, on April 2, 2015.
On April 5, an Israeli military court held a hearing to discuss the file of the detained leftist Legislator, and sentenced her to six months under arbitrary Administrative Detention orders, without charges.
On April 15, the military prosecutor filed an indictment of twelve charges against the feminist leader, including “membership with an illegal organization,” in addition to “holding and participating in protests in solidarity with political prisoners.”

The PPS said the Adnan suffered a very serious health deterioration, and is facing a grave risk of losing his life.
PPS lawyer Jawad Boulos visited the detainee, on Monday morning, and was informed that Adnan developed two new complications; very visible yellowness in his eyes, which is typically an indication of a dysfunction of the liver, in addition to a much darker urine which could indicate a serious issue or dysfunction of the kidneys.

Hamdouneh said that Adnan’s conditions were deteriorating and will escalate at any given moment if the IPS chooses to ignore the demands of Palestinian prisoners.
According to Addameer prisoner support and human rights association, the number of administrative Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons hit 426.
Hamdouneh, also an ex-detainee, said that the Israeli prison services asked Sa’adat for a one-day respite, ending tomorrow, to respond to his demands, which include allowing family visits and moving on with the case of Khader Adnan.
Ahmad Sa’adat was transferred from Ramon to Gilboa prison on May 5 as part of a series of transfers aimed at disrupting prison organizing. The Popular Front leader has been repeatedly transferred during his imprisonment.
Demands also include moving with the case of prisoner Khader Adnan knowing that his health is deteriorating. Adnan two days ago refused to undergo medical tests by Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) delegation, because of the prison administrations restrictions that Adnan’s hands and feet must be chained to his bed for 24 hours during the tests.

The Jerusalemite female prisoner Shirin Issawi suspended her hunger strike that lasted for a week after the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) vowed to end her solitary confinement and to improve her detention conditions.
IPS promised to end Shirin’s isolation and to allow her family visits, in addition to improving her detention conditions.
Her detained brother Medhat Issawi also suspended his hunger strike declared in solidarity with his sister.
Israeli sanctions and restrictions against Palestinian prisoners have increased during the holy month of Ramadan in total violation of their human rights and religious freedom.

The health situation of the prisoner Khader Adnan has seriously deteriorated as he continues his hunger strike for 45 consecutive days protesting his administrative detention, rights group said.
Head of the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) Jawad Boulos said that Israeli officials asked him late Thursday to urgently come to Assaf Harofeh Hospital as Adana’s health situation has sharply deteriorated.
Adnan was vomiting along the visit hours and unable to speak loudly, while his right hand is still tied to the bed, Boulos said. He lost many of his weight.
Israeli authorities suggested to “improve Adnan’s detention conditions” in Assaf Harofeh Hospital if he accepts to conduct medical tests. However, Adnan refused the Israeli offer and continued to only drink water without taking any vitamins.
Along the past few hours, a number of Israeli figures have visited Adnan in the hospital including head of Israeli Medical Association and members of Physicians for Human Rights.
In the same context, Jihad-affiliated prisoners held in Nafha prison affirmed that an Israeli senior official informed them that Khader Adnan suffers significant health deterioration as he refuses to conduct any medical tests or to take vitamins.
An Israeli medical delegation has visited Adnan in an attempt to “convince” him to undergo the medical tests, however he refused, the prisoners quoted the Israeli official as saying.
37-year-old Palestinian detainee Khader Adnan Musa has been on an open-ended hunger-strike for the 46th day running in protest at being held administratively, with neither charge nor trial, in the Israeli occupation jails.
Adnan, a father of six children, was arrested near Jenin in July during an Israeli arrest campaign across the West Bank. He is one of many former prisoners re-arrested and incarcerated for unclear reasons.
Along the same line, the newly released Lina Khatib said that Palestinian female prisoners suffer catastrophic detention conditions as they are subjected to tough torture and ill-treatment at the hands of Israeli jailers.
Palestinian female prisoners are subjected to human rights violations, she stressed.
Khatib also pointed to the suffering they face while being transferred via “Bosta”, a transport vehicle in which the prisoner is shackled to a metal chair in the back.
The Bosta is not air conditioned, does not have open windows, and temperature inside it reaches extremely high levels. It is a particularly dangerous experience for older or ill prisoners.
Khatib was released last week from Israeli jails after being arrested on December 13, 2014 for participating in a peaceful march outside Ofer prison.
