Palestinian Prisoners Society stated that around 400 Palestinian children, aged 11-14 years old, are imprisoned in the Israeli jails, some of whom were officially tried.
On Universal Children's Day, the Society issued a statement pointing out that 11 Palestinian minors are under the Israeli administrative detention, including six girls.
The statement showed that a number of minors and kids were shot with live ammunition before they were arrested and taken to Israeli hospitals. 17-year-old Jalal Sharawna, for example, lost his leg.
Harsh Conditions
The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have carried out hundreds of detention raids especially in October and November. 700 children have been arrested since the start of October, with the highest rates in Jerusalem and al-Khalil. Most of the children were conditionally released on bail, or under house arrest.
The Prisoners Society documented the cruel treatment the children were exposed to in Israeli jails. The treatments, according to the Society, are classified as crimes, including deliberate shooting, deprivation of food and water for one or two days, brutal beating, verbal abuse, and coercion. Moreover, the prisoners were kept in prisons unfit for humans, like Ajafon prison.
Ahmed Al-Manasrah
The widespread video of Ahmad Al-Manasrah, 13, in the Israeli interrogation room is an example of the Israeli inhumane treatment of Palestinian children. The video showed Ahmed begging to be taken to a doctor or to have a lawyer which was met by threats and shouts by the Israeli police interrogators.
Pressure on Israel
On the occasion of Universal Children's Day, the Palestinian Prisoners Society called upon the international children organizations to put pressure on Israel to stop the crimes against Palestinian children and to release the detained minors.
United Nations and Palestinian children
On the Universal Children's Day, the UN said the world remains a 'deeply unfair' place for children. Although the UN slammed Israeli treatment of Palestinian children in detention, it has done almost nothing to protect their childhood or pressure Israeli to end its cruelty against Palestinians, especially the kids.
There are four main Israeli prisons for the Palestinian children: Hasharon, Ofer, Megiddo, and Ajafon. According to Palestinian lawyers, Etzion prison has been one of the worst prisons for Palestinian children in terms of beating and torture.

Some 230 Palestinian schoolchildren have appealed to the Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) to restore the bags of which they were robbed right after their detention in early October.
Head of the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) in al-Khalil, Amjad al-Najar, said in a press statement: “Scores of newly-released children, along with their families, appealed to the PPS to retrieve their bags.”
“We’ve got used to appeals to restore prisoners’ money, IDs, or mobile devices. But the day has come when children are demanding their schoolbags,” al-Najar stated.
He spoke out against the personal and intellectual repercussions of such Israeli policies on the children’s psyche and career.
He further warned of the arbitrary interrogation summonses frequently issued by the IOA against Palestinian children and the prerequisite to have those very children handed to Israeli investigation centers by their parents.
“The intent is just as clear as daylight: The IOA aims at distorting image of the father and mother as their child’s source of protection and bulletproof vest,” he said, calling on Palestinian families to never yield in to such malevolent schemes.

Ferwana Calls For Protecting Palestinian Children
Translated By Saed Bannoura – IMEMC News: A statement issued by the head of the Research and Documentation Department at the Palestinian Detainees' Committee, and a member of its follow-up committee in the Gaza Strip, Abdul-Nasser Ferwana, called on the international community to act in protecting Palestinian children facing ongoing Israeli violations.
In his statement, Ferwana said the Palestinian children are increasingly subject to escalating Israeli violations, and called for ensuring the release of all imprisoned children, in addition to guaranteeing their continued freedom.
His statements were marking the Universal Children’s Day (November 20) which was adopted by the United Nations Secretary-General on the same date, in 1989, under the Convention of the Rights of the Child, Assembly Resolution 44/25, (entry into force September 2, 1990, in accordance with article 49.)
"Since Israel invaded the Palestinian territories, it began treating the children as 'delayed time bombs, that would detonate when they grow up,' and this both confiscated their immunity and assassinated their innocent childhood," Ferwana said. “Their young age was ignored, and they were stripped of their rights; this led to the death and arrest of thousands of children.”
He also said that such illegal policies, enforced by the state of Israel, have caused developmental issues, physical and psychological, and are meant to destroy the children's futures and impact their natural growth.
"Since Israel occupied the rest of Palestine in 1967, the army has kidnapped thousands of children, including more than 12.000 who were kidnapped since the Al-Aqsa Intifada began on September 28, 2000," Ferwana stated. "A record high of child abductions was reached since the Al-Quds Intifada began on October 1, 2015, as the Israeli army has kidnapped more than 1,000 children. Many of them are even under the age of 14, and at least 400 of them are still imprisoned."
"If some of those children faced threats of bodily harm, and were illegally interrogated, subjected psychological torture, one of those cases is Ahmad Manasra," Ferwana went on to say. "Every detained child faced physical and psychological torture in one way or another, others were not provided with much needed medical attention. Examples of that are the cases of Issa al-'Aati, Jalal Sharawna and Estabraq Ahmad Nour, along with many others."
"We have seen many videos, on social media websites, of horrific and shocking abuses to children at the hands of Israeli soldiers and interrogators. Testimonies the children provided to their lawyers showed real cruelty and criminal behaviors."
"This is why we need to properly document all Israeli violations, and present them to the International Criminal Court, to the international community, to show them the real horror and dehumanization Palestinians face under this cruel, illegal and immoral occupation."
In addition, the Palestinian official and former political prisoner said that Israel continues to conduct grave violations of international law, upon the entire international community, and is an issue which requires effective and serious intervention, in order to ensure the protection of these children.
"It is an international duty and responsibility to provide protection to the children," he concluded, "to protect all international agreements, and to hold Israel accountable for its ongoing and escalating crimes."
