The Israeli Military Ofter Court on Wednesday evening sentenced the anti-occupation youth Murad Id’is, 16, to life in jail and a steep fine.
16-year-old Id’is, a native of al-Khalil’s southern town of Yatta, was sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of up to 750,000 shekels on charges of stabbing an Israeli settler in the illegal Atna’il outpost, built on Palestinian lands to the south of al-Khalil province, in the southern occupied West Bank.
Last July, the Israeli occupation authorities knocked down Id’is’s family home as part of a tactic of collective punishment perpetrated against the families of Palestinian anti-occupation protesters.
Most of the anti-occupation stabbing attacks carried out by Palestinian youth since the outburst of the Jerusalem Intifada, in early October last year, have been in response to Israel’s simmering terrorism against the holy al-Aqsa Mosque and Palestinian civilians across the occupied territories.

At least 1,600 Palestinian detainees are in need of medical treatment in Israeli jails, Palestinian ex-prisoner Ibrahim Al-Abassi warned.
Speaking with a PIC news correspondent, Al-Abassi, who had served 18 years in Israeli jails, said: “1,600 detainees have been suffering debilitating illnesses, 120 among whom in critical conditions as they have been diagnosed with cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and cardio-vascular disorders, among other life-threatening diseases.
According to the ex-prisoner, the number of detainees who died in Israeli jails has hit 208 Palestinians after prisoner Yasser Hamdouna breathed his last on September 25 due to medical neglect in Israeli detention.
“Breaking news on deaths, crackdowns, hunger strikes, health deterioration have been a daily occurrence in Israeli jails,” said Al-Abassi.
Speaking on behalf of the detainees, Al-Abassi urged the humanitarian institutions and human rights organizations to make serious steps so as to save the sick detainees in Israeli prisons.
“Any detainee who is transferred to an Israeli hospital to undergo a surgery is usually returned to jail in two days via the Bosta (a prison vehicle allocated for transfer of prisoners). A person with a normal health condition cannot endure trips onboard the Bosta, let alone a sick detainee who has just undergone a surgery,” Al-Abassi further stated.
