Palestinian detainees in the Israeli Negev jail called for pressuring the Israeli prison service (IPS) to allow the entry of winter garments and blankets with the advent of a wintry weather.
Media Director at the Palestine Prisoners Center for Studies, Reyad al-Ashkar, quoted detainees in Negev lock-up as sounding distress signals over the acute shortage in winter clothes and blankets with the advent of winter season.
Al-Ashkar urged the national and international human rights institutions to immediately take action and save the detainees from the psycho-physical effects of the upcoming chilly weather.
Several detainees in the Negev jail are held in ragged tent-compounds that cannot resist sandstorms and rain downpours.
The situation has gone far worse due to the lack of winter garments, warm bedspreads, and the heating equipment.
Recently, the IPS set up two tent-compounds in Negev stuffed with 120 detainees each.
Al-Ashkar added that several detainees could barely move while others catch arthritis and rheumatism in winter season due to freezing temperatures.
The lack of hot water in prison cells along with the preplanned medical neglect perpetrated by IPS have added fuel to fire, aggravating even further the detainees’ agony.
