Israel has denied family visits to the father of a baby conceived using sperm smuggled out of an Israeli jail, the Ahrar Center for Prisoners Studies said Saturday.
In July, Abdul Kareem al-Rimawi's wife Lida gave birth to a healthy baby boy weighing 2.8 kg at the Razan Medical Center in Nablus.
Majd was conceived at the Razan clinic by IVF using sperm smuggled from her jailed husband, in the second such birth of its kind.
Israel's prison administration claims that al-Rimawi had no children registered before his arrest and therefore his status as a father will not be recognized.
Director of Ahrar, Rafat Hamdonah, called the measure an "unprecedented form of punishment", saying that international law guarantees visitation rights for families.
The family will go to court to protest the move.
Al-Rimawi has spent 12 years in jail, and will be imprisoned until 2026.
There are currently 18 women who have become pregnant by smuggling their husband's sperm from Israeli jails.

Director of Ahrar Center for Prisoners Studies Fouad Khuffash condemned Israel’s violations against the Palestinian children represented in its measures of detentions and trials. Khuffash said in a statement that “the last crime carried out by the occupation sentencing Mohammad, and Ayman Abbasi to a half and one year,”
He indicated that both of them are under 14 and were previously detained.
Khuffash demanded UN institutions and child protection centers to bear their moral and legal responsibilities towards these unstopping violations.
“Nearly 210 Palestinian children lie in Israeli jails,” the statement said.
Most of the minors imprisoned by Israel are detained on charges like stone-throwing, Israel-based human rights group B'Tselem says.
He concluded by wondering "if these crimes against children are observed outside occupied Palestine, the world would not be silent; why this is not the case when it comes to the Palestinian minors nabbed? Are not they entitled to human rights?”

Elderly, Children, And Reporters Assaulted By Soldiers. Three Kidnapped
Israeli soldiers violently attacked international diplomats, and prevented dozens of residents from rebuilding the destroyed Khirbit Makhoul village, in the West Bank’s Northern Plains.
The visiting diplomats came from France, Britain, Ireland, Spain and Australia, including diplomats of the European Union’s political bureau, who tried to render aid to the displaced impoverished villages of Makhoul village that was displaced three times.
A French diplomat was violently assaulted by the soldiers, and was dragged out of an aid truck.
The Palestinian News & Info Agency (WAFA) has reported that the soldiers used excessive force against the residents who were trying to rebuild their homes and structures, and assaulted a French diplomat who visited the area in solidarity with the displaced villagers.
WAFA added that the soldiers attacked several residents including children, reporters and elderly before kidnapping three residents and taking them to an unknown destination. Several residents suffered cuts and bruises after the soldiers violently assaulted by them.
Furthermore, the army prevented a number of international officials from entering the area to help the residents rebuild their residencies, sheds and shelters, and confiscated several tents.
The army also declared the area a closed military zone, preventing the residents and internationals from entering it. Khirbit Makhoul small Bedouin village was destroyed on Thursday for the third time in a row, leading to the displacement of dozens of families.
Ongoing Displacement
Israel does not recognize dozens of small villages, Bedouin tribes, in the Northern Plains areas of the West Bank, and near occupied East Jerusalem, as well as near Hebron and other areas.
With no services, no recognition from the occupation, those villages have been repeatedly demolished, and removed, and the residents are frequently displaced due to Israel’s ongoing violations.
Bedouin villages in the Negev are also subject to such frequent attacks and violations, as dozens of small villages have been uprooted and demolished, some tribes have been displaced and their shelters removed hundreds of times.
Hundreds of similar attacks targeted Bedouins in the Negev, who live in villages unrecognized by Israel, and are subject to frequent displacement and ongoing assaults.
Around 70,000 Arab Bedouin – whose presence in the Negev dates to the seventh century – live in 35 villages that either predate the establishment of the state of Israel in historic Palestine in 1948.
These villages are not recognized by Israel, and the inhabitants are considered trespassers. Basic services have been withheld from these villages, and thousands of houses have been demolished since 2011.
Palestinian Bedouins have faced decades of repression and forced removal by Israeli authorities because of this refusal to recognize their legitimate claim to continue to live on their ancestral land.

UFree said that, on Monday [September 18, 2013] the Israeli District Court in occupied Jerusalem sentenced eight Palestinian children from Jerusalem to actual imprisonment for periods between 17 and 44 months.
It added that Israel is also resorting to placing dozens of residents under house arrests, in addition to its illegal detention policies and its arbitrary forced exile of certain detainees.
Head of the Jerusalem Poisoners Families Committee, Amjad Abu Asab, told UFree that Israel alleges that the kidnapped children threw stones at the Israeli army, and added that the children were violently beaten and assaulted by the soldiers during the course of their arrest, and were subject to physical and psychological torture during interrogation, in direct violation of international law and all related human rights treaties.

A Palestinian human rights center charged that the Israeli occupation forces deliberately assassinated Islam Al-Tobasi, who died of gunshot wounds two hours after his arrest. The Israeli soldiers had savagely broken into Tobasi's house on Tuesday morning amid heavy gunfire. They shot him directly in his foot although he did not pose any threat to them. Once they approached him, they shot him again and dragged him brutally on the ground despite his bleeding, Palestine Center for Prisoners' Studies said.
Tobasi died shortly after being transferred to hospital where he did not receive any first aid, the center added.

Israel is close to officially approving the release of an additional 250 Palestinian prisoners detained before Aslo Accord, Palestinian sources said.
Israel has already agreed to release 104 prisoners as part of the resumption of peace negotiations. Twenty-six of those prisoners were freed last month. The second phase of the prisoners' release is scheduled for the end of October. The fourth and final release of prisoners is expected to take place on March 28.
In early September, Mahmoud Abbas told a meeting of the Fatah Revolutionary Council in Ramallah that he has agreed not to turn to international organizations during the negotiations in return for the release of the 104 prisoners, who were detained by Israel prior to the signing of the Oslo Accords.
"I consider the issue of the UN to be very important, but the case of the prisoners is worthy of sacrifice," he said. "We have prepared 63 requests to join 63 UN agencies and conventions, but I said the issue of the prisoners is now more significant."
Palestinian Minister of Prisoner Affairs met recently with the families of the 104 prisoners and promised them that they would be released regardless of whether any progress is made in the peace talks. He said the prisoners would be released to Gaza and the West Bank.
Meanwhile, Israel has agreed to allow limited quantities of building materials for use by the private sector into the blockaded Gaza Strip starting from Sunday.
The quantities allowed in per day would be 1,600 tons of gravel, 800 tons of cement and 400 tons of iron.
A Palestinian official in Gaza said that allowing building materials into Gaza was a positive development, but insufficient.
"It's a positive step, but Gaza needs 6,000 tons of gravel, 4,000 of cement and 1,500 of iron per day," deputy economy minister Hatem Oweida said.

The Israeli Police arrested the deputy head of the Islamic Movement in Historic Palestine, Sheikh Kamal Khatib, and the movement’s Advisor for Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs, Ali Abu Sheikha.
The Al-Aqsa Foundation for Waqf and Heritage issued a statement revealing that the Israeli Police is accusing the two officials of “incitement that led to violence and disorder in the Al-Aqsa Mosque area”.
They will be sent to the District Court in occupied Jerusalem on Wednesday, the Foundation said.
Sheikh Khatib was kidnapped when the Police approached him as he was heading to the Al-Aqsa Mosque for evening prayers, while Sheikh Abu Sheikha was ordered to head to the Al-Maskobiyya detention and interrogation facility.
Both officials were interrogated in room 4 in Al-Maskobiyya, known as “minorities’ interrogation room”, the Al-Aqsa Foundation said.
Islamic Movement Spokesperson, Zahi Njeidat, stated that the Israeli allegations are false, and that the Israeli occupation wants sole control and domination over the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
“This is why Israel keeps kidnapping and interrogating any person who defends the mosque, and exposes the illegal Israeli plans, and the ongoing attacks carried out by extremist settlers”, Njeidat added.
